Very few people realize how
much preparation goes into
having a routine ready for the
performance. Monday starts the
work. The practice starts at 1:35
and finishes about 4:30. They
start every session with 30
minutes of exercises. Since all
ten routines were taught before
school started, they spend the
day refreshing their memories.
Tuesday is more practice. Wed-
nesday is known among the girls
as “cut day.” This is when each
girl’s performance is watched
carefully to make sure she
knows the routine, does each
step correctly, and smiles...If
the girl does not meet these
requirments, she will not per-
form on Friday night. Thursday
and Friday are the days during
which the girls go to the field
and practice their field entran-
ce, exit and the routine.
The girls are now ready for
Friday night. Tension is high
before and during half time for
the 25 girls. This is when all the
long hours of preparation pay
off. The drill team now hopes to
give a performance that the
crowd will enjoy.

Late in the second quarter
Anthony Ballard got in oh the
action with a scoring run, but
again the PAT was off. On the
following kick-off, Leonard fum-
bled and Eddie Howell took
advantage of the situation to put
the Tigers out front 25-0 at the
half.
Lonnie McCartney scored
when the Tigers got bake.
Anthony Ballard capitalized on
another Leonard fumble when
he ran 55 yards to the 10-yard
line. Jeff Wortham’s arm pro-
vided another score, and Jerry
Sims got another one on a
50-yard run.
Early in the fourth quarter
Leonard scored and made a
two-point conversion; they re-
peated this in the late stages of corn, slice of onion and banana
the contest. By this time the pudding,
coaches had emptied the bench
so everyone had a part in the
victory.
