Mercedes, Texas, Thursday, April 3, 1975
We are not holding ourselves out as possessing unusual
qualifications. We, like many of you, feel proud to have raised our
children the best we know how. All of our children have either
graduated from Mercedes high school or are presently attending.
As our children have been educated we too have learned about the
Mercedes educational system. Both of us have worked in the Band
Boosters and Mercedes Tiger Booster Club. In addition, Alex
Moreno has worked with the Little League and the Mercedes
Aquatic Club.
Our foremost concern is that you take time out to vote and of
course we are soliciting your vote and support.
Both of us are in our early fifties. There is no way you can help
raise a family without adding a few years in the process. However,
this doesn’t mean we’re satisfied with the way things are now.
We’ve learned from experience that the only way to further the
education of the children of our community is to keep trying to
improve what is available today so that it will be better tomorrow.

Baylor University has re-
cognized 630 students for
academic achievement by nam-
ing them to its Dean’s List and
Dean’s Distinguished List.
Dr. Herbert H. Reynolds,
Baylor dean of faculties and
executive vice president, an-
nounced the names of those
Baylor students who distin-
guished themselves academi-
cally during the 1974 fall
semester.
Reynolds said 236 students
were named to the Dean’s List
and 394 to the Dean’s
Distinguished List. Of those
named to the Dean’s Distin-
guished List, 190 earned a 4.00
or straight-A average.
Baylor’s grading system is
on a four-point scale. Four
points per hour credit are
given for an A, three for a B,
two for a C and one for a D.
Grade point averages are
derived by dividing the total
number of points earned by the
number of hours taken.
To be named to the Dean’s
List, one must be an
undergraduate or post-gradu-
ate student who has earned a
grade point of 3.6 to 3.79,
while taking 15 credit hours
during the semester.
Those named to the Dean’s
Distinguished List are under-
graduate or post-graduate
students with a grade point
average of 3.80 to 4.00 for 15
semester hours.
Named to the Dean’s List
was Tracy D. Edgemon of
Mercedes, son of Mr. and Mrs.
