when the bomber he was flying over Buna caught fire after being attacked by Jap planes Bender tried to
escape through the pilot’s emergency hatch but it was jammed. Before he could free himself the* plane
exploded and he was blown through the hatch. Bender didn’t lose consciousness and parachuted to safety.
Comrades carried Bender sixteen days to an American base. This is a phonephoto.
