Walker's celebrates 50th anniversary
John S. and JoAnne Manninng Walker cel-
ebrated their Fiftieth Wedding Anniversary
on Saturday, December 20, 2008. Close
members of their family hosted a dinner
party at the Fredonia Hotel in
Nacogdoches, where Mr. and Mrs. Walker
spent part of their honeymoon 50 years
ago. They met as students at Panola
College. Mr. Walker, a native of Carthage, is
also a graduate of SFASU and Samford
University's Cumberland School of Law,
and is a former District Attorney of Panola
and Shelby Counties.To celebrate, an early
spring trip to Europe is planned. Mr. Walker
is the son of the late N. F. Walker and Rose
Mary Bozeman Walker, long time residents
of Carthage, and the nephew of Mrs. Jake
Walker.

Couple announces engagement
Gene and Robin Simpson, of Carthage, are
pleased to announce the engagement of
their daughter Amanda Simpson to
Matthew Lancaster, of Carthage, son of
Rusty and Terry Lancaster. The bride-elect
is the granddaughter of Horace and
Bonnie Carraway, of Taylor, AR, and the
late Elton and Martha Simpson, of
Springhill, LA. The prospective groom is
the grandson of Donny and Jackie
Cockerham, of Teague, the late Jack
Lancaster and Georgia B. Lancaster, of
Dew. Amanda is a 2003 graduate of
Carthage High School. She continued her
education at East Texas Baptist University,
graduating in 2006 with a BSE. She is
employed as a teacher/ coach for Carthage
Junior High. Matthew is a 2002 graduate of
Carthage High School. He is employed as
an operator of XTO Energy in Logansport.
The couple will wed on April 4, 2009 at 6
p.m. at the First Baptist Church. Friends
and relative are invited to attend this spe-
cial occasion.

Milford and Patsy Groves, of Carthage, are
pleased to announce the engagement and
approaching marriage of their daughter
Kimberly Ann to Stephen D'Wayne
Cornelius, son of Gerald and Nancy
Cornelius, of Baytown. Kim is the grand-
daughter of Mrs. Marie Singletary, of
Carthage, the late Cleo Singletary, and the
late Obed and Lorena Groves. Stephen is
the grandson of Ray and Betty McMahon,
of Baytown and the late Odis and Ruby
Cornelius. The bride-elect is a graduate of
Carthage High School, Panola College and
Texas A&M University. She is the owner of
Make It Scrappy in Carthage. The prospec-
tive groom is a graduate of North Shore
High School in Houston. Stephen has
recently been employed as an electrician
for Hal's A/C and Electrical in Carthage.
The couple will be united in marriage at 6
p.m., Saturday, January 31 at the Ebenezer
United Methodist Church in the Delray
community. A reception will follow the cer-
emony at the Texas Country Music Hall of
Fame. Friends and family are cordially
invited.

Carthage (formerly Carthage Cup). Hal is a
lead in our Maintenance Department. He
will be with us 11 years in April of 2009.
His professional approach to problem solv-
ing and training new hires has made him a
valuable asset to our Maintenance depart-
