THE J-TAC—r3
Upturning: students will have
noticed by now .that a, number of
improvements have been'made to
Tarjeton's campus during the sum-
mer.
Three new parking lots were
constructed; one near the boy's
dorm, one near the Diljing Hall,
and one near the shop building'.
The builder of these lots was
Contractor Eddie Williams, of Ste-
phenvile. The lots cost $11;000 and
were designed to remedy the park-
ing problem at Tarleton. '
The Auditorium was repaired
and a new public address system
installed.
A new dressing room has been
made in the boys' gym.

Building- now have acoustic ceil-
ings. Floures.cent lighting has been
added to 'the drafting rooms.
The baseball field has been com-
pleted and a "press box constructed
there.
Another project to be ' finished
soon is a chlorinator for Tarle-
'ton's water supply. It is design-
ed to improve the quality of the
water by losing the health sand-
a ltd. I will be installed in a con-
crete shed near the water tower
and will cost $1,200,
The College Dining Hall has or-
dred several places of new equip-
ment for this fall. Included in
the equipment are two ovens, two
ranges, aild one fryer. This equip-
ment will be operated electrically
and will double the electric lojid
of the Dining Hall,
$2,000 in new equipment was ad-
ded to the surveying- and physics
laboratories. All of the equipment
has not arrived, however.
TSC STUDENTS
Twenty-three Tarleton students
journeyed some 200 miles in pri-
vate cars to attend the football
game in Paris Thursday night.
The yell' staff remarked that the
spii'it shown in backing the Plow-
boys .by those present was very
good.
A dance at the Paris:Junior Col-
lege Recreation Hall, after the
game was attended by several of
the students.
Among those, present at the game
were Monte McCowan, Tom Walk,
Bob Gartman, Sharon Wilson,
Mary Strebeck, Barbara Ray, Beth
.Knickerbocker, Joyce Short, Freda
Reed,;' Frances Mote, Ruthy Kanz,
Mary Lou Drummoiul, Dottie La
Roe, Lois Hill, Wilma' Goyne, Jean
Moore, Tommy Harkey,, Jean Cal-
houn, Joey Brown, Benny Davis,
Myrna Turner, Sandra Herrell and
Edmond Schuster.
Some Tarl'eton exes were seen at
the game also. Barbara and Bill
Puryear, Jack Richardson, and
Winifred McCoy,, all of whom are
.attending East Texas State Teach-
ers College at Commerce, were
there.

The Texas. Employment Com-
mission now has the positions of
interviewer, apprentice clerk, clerk,
and stenographer open.
Examinations for these posi-
tions are now offered continuously.
There is no closing- date for appli-
cations. You need not submit an
application in advance of the ex-
amination, Application, veteran
preference forms, and information
about the examinations njay be
obtained at any office of the Tex-
as Employment Commission. In the
event you canrtOt obtajnthu neces-
sary forms in advance, you may
secure them at the examination
center.
On a scheduled day, take your"
completed, application to one of the
examination centers listed in the
schedule. Be sure to appear for
the examination by 9 a.m. or a
little earlier if you have • not
completed your application. Take
also your college transcript, and a
photograph approximately two
inches square. Veterans : should
take a photostatic or certified copy
of their honorable discharge and
a Merit System veteran preference
form. Submission of these, in. the
place of examination will prevent
delay in your receiving- your grade.
Special Requirements
You must ■ riot have taken the
Merit System Examination for the
same position during the present'
calendar year. The quarters are
JUnuary 1 to March 31, April 1
to June 30, July 1 to September
30, and from October 1 to De-
cember 31.
You must be at the examination
center by. 9 a.m. to be admitted.'
You must have been a resident
of Texas for the'past five years.
Materials for the Exanuiuition
Stenographic candidates should
bring stenographic notebook's and
pencils. AH other material needed
for each examination will be fur-
nished.
Veteran Preference
Honorably discharged veterans
and widows and orphans of such
veterans who pass an examination
and who have been. residents of
Texas for the past five years may
have fiye points added. to their
score.- Such. veterans who have* a
service-connected disability may
have ten points added to their
score. To qualify, for " additional
points; the veteran must submit a
certified or photostatic copy of
his honorable .. discharge and a
completed Merit ' System veteran
preference form. Military papers
will be returned to the candidate.
Examination Grades
Each nart of the examination
is graded separately, and the final
score is found by combining the
part scores according to the
Weights listed u.nder each posi-
tion. In order to attain a'place on
the register, the candidate must
make a passing- score of 70 on
eacji part of the - examination.
Those who pass will be notified
of their score usually within one
week of the examination. Those
jvho fail, to obtain a passing score
will be notif)e,d of-"their , ineligibil-
ity. Failure to .pass a. Merit Sys-
tem examination' does not'disquali-
fy a candidate from taking the
saijie or,other examinations in the
future. ...
Appeals ■
The Merit Rule permits an ap-
plicant to appeal to the Merit Sys-
tem Council for a review of re-'
jection of his application, or for
review of his examination papers,
provided the appeal, is filed with-
in 15 days after notification of
rejection or'failure was mailed.

school graduation, OR three years
of high school plus one year cleri-
cal experience; OR two years of
high school plus two years of cleri-

The positions of Clerk IV (TEC)
are open with a salary of $215 to
