This -week's,"Cadet of the Week",
major Pat Caudle, is president , of
the Barons social club. The
year-old lad is executive office/ in
^ the Tarleton Cadet Corps, on the
battalion stuff, and a member of
the Waiirfrwght Rifles.- ;
Caudle comes to Tarleton from
New Home (20 miles south of
'Lubbock) but now makes his home
at Lake Whitney. (Playground of
Texas, as Pat describes it.)
. ' Caudle was a. 1954 graduate
from New Home High School
where he lettered three years in
football and basketball. The black-
haired' youth was also favorite of
his freshman ' # n d sophomore
classes, president of his junior
' -class, and business manager of the
annual.
King Creek Lodge.
Hunting- and fishing are Caudle's
favorite pastimes and "no wonder."
His father owns and operates the
King Creek Lodge on Lake Whit-
ney,- -which, provided Pat with an
excellent setting to do both.
. Aside from- hunting and fishing
,Caudle likes- "just any kind "of
sports" and — "girls". He didn't
mention any female in particular

by Caudle to complete his educa-
tion, He plans to work toward a
degree in industrial technology.

probably construction.

and ."own a modernistic motel.

TSC Choir to Perform
At Annual Tea Todayj
The Tarleton Collegiate Choir
will sing for the Mother and Dau-
ghter Tea today, in its 'first-per-
formance this semester.
The-program consists.of the fol-
lowing numbers: "Rock - a - My
Soul" arranged by Albert Tepper;
"Deep River" and "Dig My-Grave"
tm> Negro spirituals; "Have Yon
Seen Ho\y the White Lillie Grows,-'
am nymous; "Three Blind Mice."
arranged by Benford; "Poor Way-
faring Stranger," by Douglas
Moore,, and "Scarborough Fair,"
arranged by Henderson.

Highest Since '51
Tarleton's spiiug- enrollment is
the largest since 1951, college of-
ficials announced today following
conclusion of the final day of. re-
gistration Saturday.
A total of 705 students is en-
roll-id. Of this number 43(> are
freshmen, l(;,r> are second year
students, and 94 are special stu-
dents.
Male students number 542, while j
there are Kl.'i women registered. ■ i

The three . candidates receiving
the most penny votes will be bal-
loted on by couples as they enter
the dance. One vote will be allowed

Pitchers and catchers for Tar-
leton's baseball team are to re-
port for their first practice at S
p. Ai. Wednesday at the baseball'
field, Coach Cecil Ballow an-
nounced today.
Coach Ballow also announced
thut other players will begin
workouts next Monday, begin-
ning at .'J p. m.

I'lhave you noticed any hew faces
on the Tarleton campus these past
lew weeks ? If you haven't then
you are probably suffering- from
myopia, (nearsightedness)
Registrar J. E, Thoinpkins Jr.
lecently released figures which;
showed a tofal of 70 new students*
registered for the spring semester.
Of this total 22 are transfers, 18,
coming from Texas A&M. Two
are transfers from Howard Payne
and one each from Texas Tech,
Baylor, Abilene Christian, and Mc-t
Murry.
Step'henville beaded the list of
new students with a total of seven.
I{ t. Worth and Dallas each had
three or mo'e while Brownwootl
also enrolled three.
Jorge Hidalgo was the only*
student enrolled from a foreigji
country.- He hails from Alajhela,
Costa Rica and is majoring in en4
gineering.
Napoleon hffd an ulcter. This ac-
counts for his classic pose, by in-
fsrting a hand in his blouse, he
was able to relieve pain by press-
ing' on his stomach.

National Guard
Recruit Drive
To Begin Feb. 22
The Recruiting Bureau of the
National Guard announced that all
National Guard units in Texas will
conduct a one-day recruiting drive
Feb.; 22,
"The purpose of this drive," the
board announced, "is to help enlist
75,000 new volunteer guardsmen
_ urgently needed to meet the, fiscal
year goal set by Congress for the;
United States, Puerto Rico, Alaska
and Hawaii."
The basic program of the one-
day campaigning will consist of a
two-hour- drill period the morning
ot .drive day-,, following which all
guard, members will engage in
house-to-house recruiting.- ,
There will be open houses at
armories, and also parades, down-
town displays and tierial flyovers
by National Guard planes, depend-
ing upon the size.of: the units and
the facilities available to them. '
