strong for the Constitution, being abusive and
snorty when treating of those who do not read
the Constitution as you do, some scheme should

But if they should, our advice would be simply
this: Build the roads to Elysian Fields* and
Harleton and get these communities out of the
mud before next winter. This would please lots
of people, would be just and right and would
be the beat card for Marshall possible. 2 Those
who are neediest should receive relief first. We
do ngt think our entire road building plan should
be stopped because of the one highway. The

A great of the trading away from home is
done because the people do not keep in touch with j
the home merchants. The big mail order houses
of the country have swamped the entire nation
under a deluge of catalogues. They have placed
them in nearly every home, and the people have
become so educated to consulting catalogues be-
fore making a purchase that home merchants ■
are not considered.
People take it for granted that the home mer-
chant will not have what they want or that he
will ask several times a catalogue price for it. !
Such utter lack of consideration for the home,
merchant works an injustice both to the home
merchant and to the purchaser as well The
home merchant is an asset to a community. He
is not a thief, a fly-by-night crook, or agrafter.
The community is his permanent home. He de-
sires to live his life there. He wants to see it
grow and keep pace with progress. So it is
wholly unreasonable to consider the home mer-
chant in any other light than that of honest bus |
iness. He studies his community, knows its needs
and provides for them.
