day, May 1,. winners of four .
awards, at the fifty-fourth annual
Texas Intercolegiate Press As-
sociation Convention held. April
28-29 at Ofiessa College, Odessa.
Tarleton was one of 15 schools
in Texas that submitted a. re-
cord '211 entries out of a poss-
ible 315 in 21 separate contests.
Placing for TSC were: Larry
Stegemoller, first in Division

day afternoon.

to suspend two schools from
membership in the TIPA "for
failure to send delegations and
enter contests according to the
TIPA constitution.". They were
Howard Payne, Brownwood, and
West Texas State University,
Canyon.
Three schools were formally
accepted for membership, in-

Sail Angelo; Arriarillo Junior
College, Amarillo, and Howard
County Junior College,; Big
Spring; .

prospective press members "If
you enjoy the power to make
your fellow man chuckle, or cry
or sit up and take notice, and
if you would like to influence the
world you live in, then you are
on the right path. I congratu-
late you!"
He told of the Viet Nam War
and of the role the American
press corps plays there, pointing
out that only 15 American daily
newspapers sponsor* newsmen
there.
"There,, are no telephones.
Covering the .Viet Nam war is
like trying to cover Texas with-
out a telephone. You can be.
within 10 miles of a battle and
not know it's there. There is no
front. The war is all around
you," he said.
He said his four-month tour of .
writing in South Viet. Nam was'
"the most rewarding" experi-
ence of his life..

First Savings & Loan Associa-
tion, Odessa; a $15 gift, certifi-
cate from L' Allegro Fashions;
and an engraved charm from
TIPA.
A new award was presented
Saturday—one from Texas A&I
Press Club-, given in. memory of.
' Joyce Wilkerson,. a member
killed in , an, auto wreck last
Thanksgiving. The award, the
"Joyce Wilkerson Memorial
Award", was,-given in the form
. of a "traveling plaque" to. the
school 'winning the highest num-
ber of points in two 'contest di-
visions. ,
The winner was Southwest
Texas College, San Marcos.
AG. MEETING TONIGHT
There, will be a meeting of the
Tarleton FFA tonight at 5:30
in the Agriculture Auditorium.

torium Sunday, May 1:. The affair,, sponsored annually1
by TSC/ to honor parents and friends of Tarleton stu-j
dents, attracted approximately, 500 guests to, the cam-j
