The Tarleton Texans have initiated a different kind of drive as they aim for a worthy goal. The team is
currently raising money to take 55 children from the local Foster Home to Six Flags, May 8. Donations
were solicited downtown Friday, and the Purple & White is currently soliciting funds in the Student
Center. They need to raise about $700 and still need nearly $200- The team asks that each student do-
nate whatever he can to this project.
Gehrmann Selected For Summer Research In Okla.
Dr. William H. Gehrmann,
assistant professor of biological
sciences at Tarletort State Col-
lege, has been chosen to partici-
pate in a program for college
teachers this summer at the Uni-
versity of Oklahoma's Biological
Station at Lake Texoma, it was
announced today.
The research will be con-
cerned with the neurochemical
bases of aggressive behavior in
the collared lizard. The lizards
form dominance hierarchies sim-
ilar to chicken yard pecking or-
ders and certain types of human
interpersonal interactions.
Garner, Students Travel To Ark.
Larry Richardson of Elbert,
Texas, and Lionel Felts of Leu-
ders, Texas, students in biology
at Tarleton State College, will
accompany Dr. Herschel Garner,
Assistant Professor of Biology to
Fayetteville, Arkansas, April 22-
25.
There they will attend meet-
ings of the Southwestern Asso-
ciation of Naturalists and pre-
sent results of a study of para-
site infection rates in the Kanga-
roo rat, Dipodomys ordii.
Their paper, 'The Incidence of
Alimentary Helminth Parasites
of the Kangaroo rat, Dipodomys
ordii' will be presented at
9 a.m., April 23 in the Student
Union Building at the University
of Arkansas. The results indicate
that the rats carry round worm
parasites in the stomach and
caecum (appendix) and tape
worms in the small intestine.
The number of rats with para-
sites, the greater number of para-
sites, and the different kinds of
parasites were all greater during
the warmer months than at other
times of the year.
A dual approach will be used:
focal stereotoxic brain lesioning
and implantatiop of various neu-
roactive drugs directly into the
brain. The resultant behavior will
then be analyzed for deviation
relative to the pretreatment per-
iod. The researchers hope that
this work will shed further light
on aggressive mechanisms in
higher organisms.
Dr. Gehrmann joined the
Tarleton faculty in 1969. He
holds a B.A. from New York
University and a Ph.D. from
the University of Arizona.
He is. a member of the Amer-
ican Association of Advanced
Science and the American So-
ciety of Zoologists,

What you should know about diamonds
when you know it's for keeps, ; ,
You've dreamed about your
diamond engagement ring a thou-
sand ; times. But now that you
know it's for keeps, it's time to
stop dreaming and start learning
about diamonds and their value.
Because no two diamonds
are exactly alike, jewelers have
adopted exacting standards to de-
termine the relative value of each
and every diamond in the world.
These standards include a dia-
mond's size (carat weight), color,
cut and clarity.
Although it's important to
know the facts about diamonds,
you certainly don't have to be an
expert to choose a Keepsake Dia-
mond Ring . . , because Keepsake
guarantees a diamond of fine white
color, correct cut and perfect clar-
ity or replacement assured. The fa-
mous Keepsake certificate provides
permanent registration, trade-in
value and protection against loss
of diamonds from the setting.
COLOR-: Fine white diamonds are
quite rare and valued accordingly.
Other shades in relative order of
their worth are: blue, yellow,
brown and black.
CUT: The cut of a diamond—the
faGets placed on it by a trained
cutter—brings out the gem's fire
and brilliance. Anything less than
correct cut reduces beauty, bril-
liance and value.
CLARITY: Determined by the ab-
sence of small impurities. A per-
fect diamond has no impurities
when examined under ten power
magnification by a trained eye.
CARAT: A diamond's size is
measured in carats. As a diamond
increases in size, its price will
increase even mote if the quality
remains constant. But larger dia-
monds of inferior quality may ac-
tually be worth less than smaller,
perfect diamonds.
