We scored the first
touchdown early in the
game after the defense
stopped the Indians.
Darrell Piske received the
pass from Bill Bayless in
the end zone. Our main
objective was to be the
first to score and control
the ball for the rest of the
game.
Most of the second
quarter was a stalemate.
The Indians weren't ready
to give up at any time in
the game. This- made the
evening a £ough physical
match.
At halftime the score
was 12-7 in favor of
McMurry, after they made
two touchdowns and
missed both extra points.

yardage but we were
stopeed by penalties,,on
our own part. To be a
good team, this is
something that we must
put a halt to.
Football is a game of
mistakes, and the team
that makes the less always
wins. However, the third
quarter turned things
around. The Indians began
to be responsible for the
penalties. The defense
capitalized on this and put
the offense in good field
position several times.
Finally, the Texan
offense broke a play open
in the fourth quarter and
Ricky Bush scored on a
draw. The extra point was
kicked by David Creed to
give us a 14-12 lead.
Tarleton tied
forfirst in TIAA
After two games, the
Tarleton Texans are tied
for first place with Sul
Ross in the TIAA, at two
wins and no losses.
Tarleton leads the league
in scoring defense, having
allowed their two
opponents a total of only
12 points.
The Texans are third in
the league in scoring, with
a two-game total of 42
points. Sul Ross State
leads the league with 58
points.
Tarleton also leads the
league in passing defense
and total defense (yards
allowed). The Texans have
allowed opponents an
average of only 62 yards
passing and 171 yards
. tot.^1 offense,....
Most of the second half
was dominated by the
Tarleton defense. Several
behind-the-line tackles
were made by the
defensive front. Steve
Kennedy, Billy Thompson
and Steve Watson all did
excellent jobs of stopiping
the Indian drives
throughout the game. Late
in the fourth quarter the
Texan defense turned the
ball over inside the
five-yard line. From there,
Mike Lanzalaco scored on
an outside sweep and
Floyd Beasley made the
catch for two extra points
to make the final score
22-12.
Before the game ended,
the defense found it
necessary to put a final
stop on the Indian's
attack. Daryl Havard
intercepted a McMurry
pass and ran inside the
McMurry thirty. Time had
ran out for the McMurry
Indians, and this made
their second loss of the
season.
This week we will be
preparing for Austin
College. The Kangaroos
are a well-coached team.
However, the Texans are
ready to put up a fight
This week we will be
coached and prepared for
the. Austin College type of
offense and defense. To
reach the top of the TIAA,
we must do it one game at
a time. Also, we must
believe that it is no longer
a dream but a reality.
