Jerry Clower entertains full house
fi':
By PAMELA BELL
Jerry Clower showed why he has
been named "Country Comic of the
Year" so many times as he performed
before a full house in the Fine Arts
auditorium last Tuesday night,
Clower said that he had a great time
doing the show and this was one of the
better audiences that he had seen.
"It was a joy to see a full house and
masses of young people so clean and
impressive," he said.
During the performance, Clower
bragged on what a great agricultural
community Stephenville is and what a
fine reputation Tarleton State Universi-
ty has.
Clower is no stranger to agriculture
and he boasts of being the only member
of the Grand Ole Opry with a degree in
agriculture. He was a county agent for
two years and then became involved in
the sale of agricultural products.
To improve his selling he began "tell-
ing." This opened a whole new career.
Jerry's comedy favorites are things
that actually happened, rather than
"sitting around making up jokes." He
attributes his success as a comic to his
"ability to tell it like it happened.
"I get my stories everywhere," he
said. "I might be talking to someone
and they remind me of things that I had
forgotten, like playing down in the mud
hole."
At the end of the performance,
Clower received two standing ovations
for his hilarious comedy routines.
Following the performance, he was
given a reception by SEC and was
presented with an SEC jacket.
Clower can be seen as co-host on the
nationally syndicated TV show
"Nashville On The Road." He also has
many albums and one book, Ain't God
Good?, available in stores.
Clower recently had a new album
released that was taped in a nearby
town. The album is titled "Jerry
Clower - Live in Cleburne, Texas."
