Arriving at Amarillo the Hereford

the Amarillo lodge, which was ac-
companied by the Amarillo brass
band, where a line was formed and
the two lodges, augmented by the
• Canyon City lodge which came on
the "Hereford Special," marched
up to the opera house, where the
anniversary was held, keeping step
to the musical strains of the band.
Arriving at the opera house
speeches of welcome were made by
Assistant County Attorney Gee and
C. V. Vivian. From there the dif-
ferent delegations went to the Odd
Fellows hall and organized a lodge
of the Order of Rebeccas, about
fifty being admitted to membership.
The conclave then adjourned to
the Stringfellow-Hume building

and which was thoroughly enjoyed
by all present.
In the evening the different lodges
met and conferred degrees of Odd-

At this meeting a reunion confedera-
tion was formed and it was agreed
to hold a reunion on April 26 of
each year at different points in the
Panhandle, Amarillo being chosen
for the meeting next year.
notes.
There are some good jokes re-
ported on some of the Hereford con-
tingent who attended the I. O. 0. F.
anniversary held at Amarillo last
Saturday. Among them are the
following, though we refrain from
giving any names:
One young man who accompanied
a very pretty young lady bought only
one ticket, supposing,probably, that
on account of her good looks the con-
ductor would be spell-bound and
pass her by. But the acting con-
ductor, W. B. Garwood, is an old
tim?r in the railroad business and a
married mm besides (which ac-
counts for his not noticing the beau-
ties of the young lady in question)
and demanded a ticket for her
trir sportation or the cash equivalent.
T lis sams young man was so
bu y admiring the sights of Ama-
rillo that he forgot all about .supper,
leaving his fair companion at the
hotel, and it was not until after ten
o'clock that either of them had any
donations to the inner man.
A gay young party of Herefordites
were dining at the Elmhirst cafe and
atter having finished their repast the
waiter brought on the last course—
the finger bowl—and it is said that
one of the young men tasted of the
contents of his bowl and remarked
that "this soup tastes like water to

me.
It is said the liverymen of Ama-
rillo did a good business Saturday
as a result of the Hereford visitors.
Every one of the young people who
attended from here say that they
enjoyed themselves hugely.

Since selling his interest in that busi-

Why Not Build a Race Track?
As there are now a number of fast
bicycles and bicyclists in Hereford
it strikes us that steps should be
taken to construct a race track here.
The cost for sueh an enterprise
would be nominal and it would afford
an excellent place of amusement and
rccreation for our "scorchers," and
also for lookers on who enjoy feats
of strength, endurance and speed.
Think it over, boys.
