Fifteen new stores, plus eight
remodelings and relocations,
are planned for 1985.
An East Texas-based company
for many years, Bealls began its
move into major markets in the
late 1960s and "70s. The first out-
of-Texas store was Ardmore.
Okla., in 1967. During the '70s,
Bealls entered markets in San
Antonio and Houston, along with
additional stores in Austin, Cor-
pus Christi and Beaumont.
As customer buying habits
have changed so has Bealls mer-
chandise presentation and mix.
Stores are constantly remodeled
and relocated to keep abreast
with the competitive retail in-
dustry.
Bealls is headquartered in
Jacksonville. A mammoth
distribution center is planned
there with construction to begin
soon.
Buying and sales promotion
offices are located in the Las
Colinas area of Irving. Royce
Beall, son of co-founder Robbie
Beall. is president and chief
executive of the chain.
Bealls employs over 6,200
people and had sales of $314
million in 1984.
