Carroll said he would like to
ask people calling for non-
emergency items to call the two
rotary numbers and not the
main number. Those numbers
are 727-5762 or -5763. “This
would leave the primary
number and the fire number
free for emergencies,” he said.
Power remained on at the
police station and the central
fire station, but the outage did
affect fire station number 2.
Equipment was kept at central
for a time during the outage ac-
cording to firefighter James
Currens.
The traffic signal at the in-
tersection of Highway 5 and
FM 2170 went off when the
lights went out and a police of-
ficer helped direct traffic.
Because the timer controlling
the light was turned off for
nearly two hours, the timing for
the blinking light was two
hours later than normal.
Ernie Hoback said the power
was out at the Hillside pumping
station. “We had to babysit it,”
Hoback said.
Since the 500,000 gallon
water tank was full the city had
a 10 to 12 hour supply of water.
However, if the outage had
occurred two weeks ago before
the elevated tank was restored
to service the city would have
been out of water in about 15
minutes, Hoback said.
