This year, Ford has re-engineered its
front suspension to reduce, road-joint
jar. Springs are tilted at an angle so they
absorb road shock from the front as well
as straight up from beneath the wheels.
This results in a new Angle-Poised Ride
that cushions minor flaws of paved roads
as well as big bumps.

SHANDS’ CALL
GIVES EAGLES
HOME GAME
A news note on the manners
and morals of college basket-
ball coaches:
North Texas State Coach
H. G. Shands and Southwest
Texas Coach Milton Jowers
couldn't agree on a date for
their Denton game. So Jowers
called Shands long distance
from San Marcos. "Let's toss
for it,” he suggested.
"All right, you flip and I’ll
take heads,” Shands respond-
_ ed.
At the other end of the line
he heard the clink of a coin
and after a pause Jowers'
voice came in: “You win."
So NTSC and SWTSC will
meet here Wednesday night.
The two honest coaches aren't
exactly strangers, through.
Shands used to coach Jowers
at the San Marcos college.
LUFKIN UNBEATEN
Lufkin, undefeated, untied and
with 457 points in 11 games, clashes
with the enigma of schoolboy foot-
ball—Breckenridge— in the feature
game of Class AAA. There’s no
question about Lfukin’s power and
brilliance. Breckenridge has been
world champion one week, less
than mediocre the next. It the
Buckaroos are “up" for this one
Lufkin will be in trouble aplenty.
The other AAA semifinal brings
defending state champion Port
Neches into combat with McAllen,
an undefeated, once-tied team that
might be the best to come out of
the Rio Grande Valley in years.
There is no comparison available
between Port Neches and McAllen,
but the former will be the choice
on the basis of virtually the same
team that last season smashed to
the title.
Port Neches and McAllen play
at Port Neches Friday night Luf-
kin and Breckenridge clash at
Waco Saturday afternoon.

It paved the way for the penulti-
mate round between Abilene and
Fort Worth Poly and Miller vs
Austin. Both games are Saturday
afternoon with Abilene at Fort
Worth and Miller at Houston.
Records say Abilene and Miller
will triumph. Abilene whipped San
Angelo -27-0, and San Angelo
slaughtered Poly 34-0. Miller beat
Austin 25-6 in regular season play.
But those defeats were early. Both
Poly and Austin caught fire in
mid-season. They're double tough
now.
