Messrs. Home and Welds, of Jack

Complete thing of the kind ever be
fore brought to Sherman. It is capa
ble of stringing a stretch of fence any
distance from a rod to a half mile
with utmost precision and
regularity. Tho pickets are
held in by ., a twist in tho
wire operatod by the machine, and
the distance intervening botween
thom can be regulated according to
wish, and can bo mado to keep tho
smallest animals out. There is no
contact of wood, and hence no dan-
ger of rotting, the fell destroyer of
ordinary fences. The fence can be
fastened on two, three or five strands
of wire as wished, and yet guaged
with porfect regularity, no matter
what .style or size of picket is used.
Capt. Lyon, Capt. Forbes and other
leading citizens are much pleosed
with it, after having used fence made

Mr. Dedrick is now engaged in turn
ing out several machines, and it is
probable that a company will be or-
ganized in Sherman for the manufac-
ture of the machines with a territory
composed of Texas, Arizona, New
Mexico and Indian Territory. It is
certainly a chance to make
good thing on a limited
amount of capital. It is a good thing
and persona having large tracts of
land to fence, or a neat piece of res
idence fence to put up tbey . will fiad

It was reported that a charter for

expects to parallel tho Atchison to

As was announced in tho issue of
last evening, tho city council last
nigbt took up for consideration the
question of granting right of w.iy to
tho two competing street railways.
Mr. Batsell appeared before the
board and stated that he
and associates bad been granted a
previous right of way ovor some of
the same streets granted on the night
before to the Sherman Belt Line
road, and asked that tho council so
amend the grant to allow him to run
on the streets granted to him before
his purchase of the line from Major
Burnett. An alderman asked him
why he bad not built on
the streets before and why it was that
he had let his rights remain idle for
two years. Iu answer to this ho
stated that ho had extended quite a
distance on Montgomery street and
had placed bis Mulberry and Travis
streets linos in firstclass shape and
had nearly a year ago ordered throe
quarters of a mile of steel rail which
had only arrived day before
yesterday. In answer to a question
as to whether this rail had been pur
chased for the purpose of still further
extending his Montgomery street
line, he said it had not, but that be
had all tho time contomplated ox
tending his line on Pfcan and Crock
ett streets, and stated that ho would
like to hiive his riglJt on Crockett
street extended further - south
than tho intersection of King street,
wbero his grant had called for a
change of streets. Ho stated, further,
that tho material, which arrived only
^ few days since, had boon ordorod
for several months, but owing to a
lack of ¡transportation facilities of
Galveston, bad been delayed a very
long time, but for which ho was not
responsible. Ho stated that it
was his intention to go to work at
once and occupy all tho grant mado
him and associates some timo since
if the council would give him tho as
surance that a previous grant would
>o rospectod over tho one granted to
H. A. Burnett and associates on Mon-
day night. Tho council postponed
tho consideration of tbe question and
took up tho water rates.
