The arrival of the murderer, Ho
gan, which haa been talked of lor tba
aat two days, did not come off until
yesterday afternoon about 6 o'clook,
when he waa brought in by
posse composed of Sber
ff May, Chief of Policp Blain
and Deputy Sberitb Hodges and
laokney. They would have arrived
on the aouthbound Central train at
8:23 yesterday afternoon, but a sorios
of accidenta delayed the northbound
train on the Missouri Pacific and the
i Central train pulled out for Sherman
oat a few minutes in advance of the
arrival of the train from Foit Worth
bearing the officers and their pris
oners. He was placed in an omuibas
and taken up to the city where ho
waa oarried to a room in the Colon
ado Hotel away from the large oud
curious crowd who had congregated
on the streets. He appeared to be
very glib with bis tongue and rattled
away in an nnooucornod manner.
It was decided to bring him to
Sherman, and a vehiole was sccured
and the prisoner placed in it. Just
as they were driving off n man in the
crowd shouted: "There's the man we
want," and made a grab at the priB
oner. Officers May, Blain, Hackney
and Hodges had their
ovns ok thk cuowd
in an instant, and it is hardly
necessary to state that a t>eni
son lynching party are easily cooled
That fact has been demonstrated in
the past. They might have wanted
Hogan, but they saw proper not to
take him just at that time. The pris
oner was a little excited, but not
maoh so. He was lodged in the
jones Stráot Prison about 0 o'clcok
and is now occupying
oux no. 5,
where he was visits by a Register
representative this afternoon. After
having received the usual warning
from Jailer Callahan, he made
statement in aubstance aa follows:
"My name is John Hogon, and
was raised at Arderville, Cooper
county, Missouri, twelve mileB
from Sedalia. I admit that
I killed Officer Carnelson, bat
