. Senator McCormick of Illinois has asked Presi-
dent Coolidge to call a conference of governors
of the states to consider reduction of state taxa-
tion. The Illinois senator said in his letter to the
.'president that local and. state taxes are one-third
higher than federal taxes and he urged that the
Coolidge administration take some action toward
