Gets Abilene Post
A former Denton County school
superintendent has been named
principal of a new elementary
school in Abilene.
He's Charles E. Silk who held
the Denton County post for more
than a decade.
Abilene school officials also nam-
ed a replacement for Donald Mc-
Donald. former Pilot Point resi-
dent. who recently resigned as cur-
riculum director to become Texas
representative of a book company.
He will continue to live in Abilene

received word of his brother Ro-
bert's death Thursday. Mr Gen-
try, former fire chief and fire mar-
shal of Carrollton, died in his Car-
rollton home Wednesday. Funeral

He died Wednesday in McAllen
after a long illness. He was a form-
er U.S. marshal in Oklahoma.
His father, Col. W. C. Geers
started the Denton Monitor in 1668,
the second newspaper in Denton's
history. Col Geers later bought
the Denton Review which was
founded in 1864 when the city was
seven years old.
Both newspapers were forerun-
ners of the Denton Record-Chron-
icle which became a dally in 1903
after the 1882 merger of the Record
and the Chronicle. Other newspa-
per* in Denton’s history have in-
cluded the Beacon. Herald, Times
and Pest, Guard, Sun (later called
the Legal Tender). Denton County
News and the Jeffersonian Advo-
cate.
