Food Snobs
We wandered into Hooligans
late Sunday night and joined
the crowd of about a dozen who
were playing darts, chowing
down and watching football on
the multiple flat-screened televi-
sions strategically placed around
the building.
During our stay, the bar began
to fill up, putting the skills of the
one waitress on duty to the ulti-
mate test. We thought she handled
the pressure like a pro, especially
after she revealed to us that the
management thought the new
cook could handle a Sunday by
himself.
Maybe it
was because
it was late in
the evening or
because it was
the end of the
week, but a few
of the items we had hoped to order,
such as waffle fries and the stuffed
chicken breast, were out. Instead,
we settled on potato skins and,
chips and salsa for appetizers, and
the potato chip chicken and the

Bull's Eye Burger for our meals.
The potato skins were seriously
lacking in cheesy goodness. In
fact, we were hard pressed to even
see any cheese on them. Instead,
we received a mouthful of dry,
unseasoned potato topped with
bacon that was too crispy for
Maria's taste and
fell off at each dip
because there
was no cheese for
it to cling to. The
chips and salsa
were far better.
The chips were
thin and warm and the salsa had
just enough kick to barely sting
your tongue without being over-
whelming.
We give Hooligans props for
its originality on the potato chip

Hooligans, located at 104 N. Locust St., features a two
chicken - a super tender, juicy
breast sealed in a crunchy layer
of fried potato chips rather than
traditional breading and accom-
panied by a special onion sauce
for dipping.
The mix of squash and zucchini
on the side was a nice, healthy
component to the meal along
with the baked potato that Rachel
assembled herself. And when we
say assemble, we mean that an
uncut potato was delivered to the
table with the question "did you
need anything for that?"
She tried to hold back her
confused look and instead
requested some butter, cheese
and sour cream. Unfortunately,
the butter arrived frozen, but the
cheese and sour cream potato was
OK nonetheless.
The Bull's Eye Burger was like
holding a heart attack in your
hands, oozing with cheese and
tangy barbeque sauce and topped

with crispy bacon. It had just
enough sauce to sweeten the meal
but not so much that you had to
fight to keep clean. It was served
with crispy, golden, crinkle-cut
fries and a small helping of baked
beans that would later be used as
a dipping agent for the fries and
chicken. In fact, by the end of our
meal we were dipping everything
into the beans, ranch, onion sauce
or salsa. All combinations were
inspired.
An hour and a half later, we
left Hooligans vowing to never
eat that much food again. While
it wasn't the best experience,
we're definitely willing to give it
a second chance on a night with a
full staff, seasoned cooks and all
menu options available - we're
still craving the stuffed chicken
breast. To enjoy the next big game
in a subdued atmosphere, check
out Hooligans anytime between
11 a.m. and 2 a.m. daily.
