Strain Ranch
Purchased For
Boy Scout Camp
The Buffalo Trail Council, Boy
Scouts of America, Inc., has con-
T summated a deal acquiring the C.
Hunter Strain Ranch in the Davis
Mountains for a council camp
site, it was announced by G. W.
Brenneman, president of the
council.
The property, consisting of. ap-
proximately 6,000 acres, is located
24 miles from Balmorhea, Texas,
and is just twelve miles off the
Pecos - Ft. Davis Highway. The
main canyon is called Aguja
meaning needle in Indian, and
is so called because of a towering
rock in the middle of the canyon.
The total consideration for the
property was $74,981.25. Plans for
financing the total purchase are
being developed and will be an-
nounced in the near future.
Proving a camp for the Scouts
of the fifteen counties comprising
the council is a big step forward,
according to Mr. Brenneman, and
represents a capital expenditure
and not an operating expense.
Deed to the property has been
received and is made to R. M. Sim-
mons, of Sweetwater; George
Abell of Midland, , and Frank
Myers of Pecos as trustees of and
for the council.
Carl Blomshield, chairman of
the council camping and activities
committee, stated that plans for)
developing the camp site are well
g along the way and that it is
“ expected the council summer
camp for 1948 will be held on the
newly acquired site.
