committee composed of five (5) Mem-
bers of the Senate and five (5) Mem-
bers of the House shall be appointed
by the presiding officer of the respec-
tive Houses to arrange for the can-
vass of the votes cast for Governor
and Lieutenant Governor at the gen-
eral election held on the first Tuesday
in November, 1968, and that a joint
session of the Senate and House be
held in the Hall of the House of Rep-
resentatives at 11:00 o'clock a.m. on
Monday, January 20, 1969, for the
purpose of counting said votes and
receiving the report, and hearing the
declaration of the results of the can-
vass; and, be it further
Resolved, That a joint committee
composed of five (5) Members of the
Senate and five (5) Members of the
House of Representatives also be ap-
pointed by the presiding officer of the
respective Houses to arrange for the
Inauguration of the Governor-elect
and the Lieutenant Governor-elect as
determined by the canvass of the
votes.
The resolution was read.
On motion of Senator Aikin and
by unanimous consent, the resolution
was considered immediately and was
adopted.
The President announced the ap-
pointment of the following as a Com-
mittee to canvass the votes cast for
Governor and Lieutenant Governor at
the general election: Senators Aikin,
Bates, Christie, Mauzy and Watson.
The President also announced the
appointment of the following as a
Committee to arrange for the Inaugu-
ration of the Governor-elect and the
Lieutenant Governor-elect: Senators
Herring, Creighton, Blanchard, Ratliff
and Brooks.
Senate Concurrent Resolution 2
Senate Hightower offered the fol-
lowing resolution:
S. C. R. No. 2, To provide a Joint
Session to hear an address by the
Honorable John Connally, Governor
of Texas.
Be it resolved by the Senate of
the State of Texas, the House of
Representatives concurring, That the
Senate and the House of Representa-
tives meet in Joint Session in the
House of Representatives at 11:00
o'clock a.m., January 15, 1969; and be
it further
Resolved, That His Excellency,John Connally, Governor of the State
of Texas, be, and he is hereby, in-
vited to address the Regular Session
of the 61st Legislature in Joint Ses-
sion at that time.
The resolution was read.
On motion of Senator Hightower,
and by unanimous consent, the reso-
lution was considered immediately
and was adopted.
Senate Resolution 2
Senator Word offered the follow-
ing resolution:
RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF
TEXAS, That the presiding officer be
authorized to appoint a committee of
three Members to be known as the
"Friendship Committee" to arrange
and assign parking space on the Cap-
itol grounds for the Members and
such elective officers of the Senate as
it may determine.
The resolution was read and was
adopted.
The President announced the ap-
pointment of the following as a com-
mittee pursuant to the provisions of
the above resolution: Senators Word,
Christie and Hall.
Senate Concurrent Resolution 3
Senator Herring offered the follow-
ing resolution:
S. C. R. No. 3, Providing for closing
of Capitol Grounds on Inauguration
Day.
Whereas, The Legislature of the
State of Texas has proclaimed the
Inauguration of the newly elected
Governor and Lieutenant Governor
for Tuesday, January 21, 1969, fol-
lowing the convening of the Legis-
lature in regular biennial session; and
Whereas, The Inauguration Cere-
monies will be held in public at the
South entrance of the State Capitol;
and
Whereas, The movement of motor
vehicles upon the Capitol grounds,
streets, and runways on said day will
be hazardous to the people assembled
for said Inaugural Ceremonies; now,
therefore be it
Resolved by the Senate of the
State of Texas, the House of Repre-
sentatives concurring, That the State
Board of Control be and is hereby
instructed to close all entrances to
the Capitol grounds to motor ve-12
