Tornado Straightens
Leaning Church in
Ward’s Bend Area
Mt Zion Baptist Church, a
colored church in the Ward's
Bend community, was blown
off its blocks during the mid-
October tornado, but the mis-
fortune was somewhat of a
good fortune as well.
The church built in 1911
leaned toward th* front or
westward, for quite some time,
due to the heavy bell in the
tower. When it was blown off
the blocks last month, it was
leveled off considerably and
now leans only slightly in the
northerly direction, according
to Mrs. Esther Thompson, who
to a member of that church and
resides in that area. Services
are being held there with G. R.
Turner as pastor.
