a single one.
Thanksgiving has come and gone. I’m
grateful family felt comfortable to get
together this year thanks to health and the
vaccine.
While I enjoyed the day, that evening,
after our feast, I turned to my daugh-
ter and said, “now we can decorate for
Christmas.” The next morning, we had
boxes out, ready to don our new home
with our Santa collection, family orna-
ments, reds and greens, and twinkling
lights. It truly is my favorite time of year.
December 2020, my husband and I
were busy going over whether we felt safe
gathering with friends and family indoors.
Ultimately, we decided no. Maybe we
were more careful than others, but we
didn’t want to get sick, didn’t want loved
ones to get sick, and didn’t want our
kids to get sick, either. Vaccines weren’t
available at that time and we just weren’t
willing to take the risk.
This year, though a hesitant music line
quietly plays in the background of my
decisions, I’m ready to celebrate. We did
last year, but it just wasn’t the same. The
holidays truly aren’t the holidays without
the ones you love. We’re going to try to
pull all the stops, despite the fact that my
son has decided to throw his once consis-
tent sleep schedule off track. We attended
the Baytown Christmas parade, hope to
see the Magical Winter Lights, and will
attend family dinners and exchange gifts.
As long as no gets sick (which is possible
with two kids under six), we’re here for
all of it.
Do you still have the same fear beckon-
ing each time it seems we’re almost out of
this, or is it just me? I’ll admit the ques-
tioning playing in the back of my mind
is a broken record. I’m tired of living in
fear. (Aren’t we all?) All I need is to lift
the needle and change the album. If only
it were that easy.
What about you? Does the pandemic
still nag at your ear? Or have you moved
on? Are you ready to celebrate? Or is fear
pulling your should back, delicately, yet
firm, whispering to not let go?

director Clifford Hatch and other staff
told members of the advisory commit-

There will be showings of “Ice Age”

A couple of events that were new in
2021 will be back on the calendar in
