Pilot Club celebrates Founder’s
Alpha Kappa Rho mem-
bers met at Ronda Liles’
home for their Oct. 27 meet-
ing and Halloween social.
President Sherri Spaeth
opened the meeting and Sec-
retary Brandi Taylor took roll
call with 10 members being
present. Brandi then read the
minutes of the previous meet-
ing and they were approved
as read.There was discussion
on “Christmas on the Grand”
and Virginia Markert made a
motion to donate $30 to the
those members still with the
club. The Charter members
include: Maxine Autrey, Mary
Haas, Annie Rodriguez, and
Dot Vrana. The club remem-
bered Del Ruth Deborah as a
past Charter member. Aimee
Hayduke assisted by Doris
Weiser presented a yellow
carnation with the clubs
colors of yellow and green
on each flower to the charter
members and past presidents
on behalf of the club. At the
end of the presentation, Dot
Vrana read the “Code of
Ethics".

Founders Day is a spe-
cial time to celebrate Pilot
International’s history and
contemplate their past, pres-
ent, and future, a time to
inspire and be inspired. Pi-
lot International’s mission
statement is to “improve the
quality of life in communities
around the world.Their focus
is to improve the life of those
with brain related disorder
and disabilities. The Texas
District of Pilot International
supports camps for those who
have been injured or have suf-
fered a traumatic brain injury
through individual volunteer
workers.
Following the program,
routine announcements were
made along with get well
wishes to those who are ill.
The friendship basket was
presented to Aimee Hayduke
from Debbie Pridgen.

The club nominated a
person for the Paul Gust wick
Award. Cheryl Trott will
work on gathering informa-
tion and filling out the form
from the Chamber of Com
merce.
The program on poet-
ry was given by Maureen
Bucek. Maureen told about
the history, elements, and
composition of poetry. She
read poetry by Edgar Allan
Poe, Ogden Nash, and Robert
Frost. Maureen’s program
reminded the members of
the importance of poetry in
literature. Her vocal presen-
tation of these works made
an excellent program, that
the members enjoyed.
Our next meeting will be
Monday, Nov. 23 at Margaret
Hennes’ homes at Koerth.

at the Gibson Center. The

Annie Rodriguez.
A Founder’s Day program
was presented by the Mem-
bership committee, with
Ruth Carter presenting in-
formation on Pilot Interna-
tional and the Pilot Club of
Yoakum. She stated there
were 21 charter members and
were honored to have four of

Thanksgiving meeting to
Tita’s home and the Christ-
mas meeting will be held at
Suzanne Kennedy’s, the next
meeting on Nov. 10 will be
held at Virginia’s house.
Publicity chair Ronda
told members an article had
been delivered to the news-
paper. Jane Kalisek, Ways
and Means chair, reminded
members to meet on Sunday,
Nov. 1 at her home to work
on items for the craft show
booth Service chair Virginia
said we would plan to get a
basket filled and delivered
to a needy family this month.
Telephone chair Ronda will
call absent members to tell
them of the change in Novem
her and December meeting
locations. Parliamentarian
Tita read a special message
and Sunshine Girl Virginia
went over the birthdays that
will occur before the next
meeting.
Sunshine basket was
awarded to Dianna Han-
zelka and Suzanne Kennedy
announced the upcoming ar-
rival of her first grandchild,
Zac and Kristel Kennedy
are expecting in January.
Members gave updates on
relatives dealing with medi-
cal problems followed by
the closing ritual being re-
cited. Halloween gifts were
handed out, Secret Sisters
were thanked and brags were
given
Social (’hair Dianna then
explained the rules of the
Halloween Scavenger Hunt
to members. The ladies drove
off to find clues hidden
around the city and be the
first team to return to Ron-
da’s house Everyone enjoyed
the fun activity planned by
Dianna. After all members
returned from the scavenger
hunt, hostesses Ronda and
the Social Committee served
soup, salad, garlic bread ring,
tea and dessert

The Progressive Study
Club met on Monday, Oct. 26
in the home of Debbie Stein-
bach. Co-hostesses were Deb-
bie Chandler, Deloris Gaus
and Cheryl Trott.
President Dorothy Mge-
broff called the meeting to
order. Roll call was answered
by 23 members. The club
welcomed Janet Adamek
back to the group.
The hostesses used a Fall
theme. They served hearty
layered sandwiches with
turkey, ham, and cheese, a
variety of relishes, pumpkin
dip with sliced apples, gin-
ger snaps, cinnamon graham
crackers, apple cider punch,
coffee, and pumpkin crunch
cake.
Docia Baldridge had
a very special devotional
which stressed encourage-
ment. The club members
expressed their sympathy to
Docia in the passing of her
oldest sister this past week.
Debbie Steinbach (sec-
retary) read the minutes
from the last meeting and
treasurer Cheryl Trott gave
her report. Club members
were reminded to pay dues
for this club year.
President Mgebroff called
on standing committees for
their reports. The program
will be on poetry. Legislative
reminded members to vote
on Tuesday, Nov. 3. Social
Committee reported that
the Christmas party will be
Monday, Dec. 14. Museum
committee reminded mem-
bers of The Christmas Tree
Forest, which will open on
Friday, Nov. 20 with the
theme being "Dreaming of
a White Christmas”. Library
committee informed the
club that this year’s library
display will be “Santa’s
Workshop”. The display will
open on Tuesday, Dec 1 The
library has a new librarian,
Lynn Mixon. Go by and wel-
come Lynn to the library.
