The Herald acknowledges a
pleasant call today fron W- J.
Phillips of San Antonio who is
representing the Fxpress. This
is his first trip to this section
he having but recently taken the
place of Ed. H. Everett who is
well known in Brownsville. Mr.
Everett has been transferred to the
business department of the Ex-
press and has charge of the city
advertising. His friends will miss
his genial smile and cordial hand-
shake and the ever ready "spiel"
in the interest of his paper. We
are sorry to lose Mr. Everett from
this portion of the field but wish
him all success in his new depart-
ment while extending a cordial
welcome to Mr. Phillips to the
Brownsville territorv.
B. Wells These trees will be
planted around the edge of the
resaca sufficiently near the water
to obtain the necessary moisture
and also for protection. They are
of the thin shell variety grafted
on hardy stock and Mr. Stiles
thinks this will become a thriving"
industry in this section. He will
leave tomorrow for Hidalgo to
select . a location and superintend
the planting "of 250 pecan trees
for John Closner. In addition!
Mr. Closner will plant an almond
grove and another of English wal-
nuts. These must be grafted on
the native black walnut stock as
the English walnuts on their own
stock will not thrive in this section.
Mr. Stiles says this is a fact to be
remembered when the growing of
English walnuts is contemplated.
Mr. Closner will also put in a fig
grove of ten acres using the true
Smyrna fig of commerce and will
put in a five-acre olive grove.
