LOUISVILLE LADY
OWNS BLUE LAWS
Original Connecticut Statutes That Pre-
sceribed Death a Cure-All. -
Louisville Ky. Recent an-
nouncement in a press report to
the effect that $5000 was paid for
a copy of the early laws of Con-
necticut known also as the "Blue
Laws" of Connecticut has brought
to light the possible fact that the
only other copy in existence is in
Louisville.
Mrs. C. E. Laverty mother of
Dr. E. C. Laverty secretary of
the Health Department is the
owner of the book. It has -oc
cupied a place in the library at her
home for the last fifty years.
"Many offers have been made
for tbe book" said Dr. Laverty
yesterday "in amounts ranging
from $10 to $200 but of course
they have been refused as the
book is not for sale. It is an exact
copy of the constitution or form
of civil government as adopted by
the towns of Windsor Hartford
and Withersfield and the Code of
1650 as confirmed by the General
Court of Connecticut having been
taken from the original records."
The following taken from the
book in the possession of Mrs.
Laverty will give one an idea of
the peculiarity of expression and
spelling as used in the early history
of this country:
CAPITAIX UVWES.
