he always makes the run that
counts. The coach keeps asking
him if he won't let somebody else
carry the ball since there are
others on the team who can do it
too. Besides there's no need of
his risking injury any more than
necessary.
Which describes Roddy Osborne,
who makes Texas A&M click as it
drives for the Southwest Confer-
ence championship.
Two weeks fh a row Osborne
has been the mainspring in victo-
ries that kept A&M in the un-
beaten ranks — the only team in
the conference that .basnet lost a
game.
Saturday at Dallas the Aggies
meet Southern Methodist to de-
cide which takes over undisputed
lead in the championship race.
Osborne has zoomed to third
place in conference ball carrying
with 407 yards on 104 rushes —
the busiest runner in the league.
He also has tried 16 passes and
completed 10 for 180 yards — a
gaudy average of .625. He seldom
passes except in the clinch, after
the Aggie ground game featuring
Osborne. John Crow and Jack
Pardee has shocked the opposition
into forgetting that there's any
such thing as a pass.

13-14 and dropped from 9th to 11th rank.
Oklahoma had lots of trouble with Colorado before coming from
behind to win 127-19 and stay first. Georgia Tech managed to seize a
7-0 victory from battling Duke to stay second. Michigan State shut
out Wisconsin 33-0 to place third. At number 4 is Texas A&M for
a convincing 27-0 beating of Arkansas. Tennessee won 20-0 over the

feated V.P.I. 21-6 for 7th. Miami of Florida got by Florida State 20-7

North Texas State and McMur-
ry College, both on the rebound
after watching their fdur-game
win streaks halted last week, will
see which one can return to the
victory trail here Saturday night
at Fouts Field.
Howard Payne snapped th In-
dians' victory skein Saturday with
a 19-7 triumph. The Eagles’ week-
end was not as disastrous, as they
played to a 7-7 tie with Trinity in
a Gulf Coast Conference tilt.
' The Abilene school lost to Abi-
lene Christian and West Texas
State in its first two games, but
rallied to conquer Texas A&I,
Midwestern, New Mexico A&M,
and Corpus Christi University in
order.
North Texas followed the same
pattern, losing its first two to Mis-
Training Center, Midwestern, Tex-
as Western, and Youngstown in
succession,
Saturday night's encounter will
be the seventh meeting between
the Eagles and Indians and the
series is all even with two wins
each and two ties.

DENTON. TEXAS. WEDNESDAY AFTERNOON, NOVEMBER 7, 1956

By THE ASSOCIATED PRESS
Only seven undefeated, untied
teams remain in the upper classes
of Texas schoolboy football as the
field moves into the stretch this
week. One of, those —Nederland
—figures in the biggest game.
Port Neches, defending cham-
pion of Class AAA, will get its
chance to return to the playoffs
but it will have to beat Nederland
to do it. This seems quite a task.
Nederland has taken seven
stright games and been most im-
pressive. Port Neches has flound-

Defending champion Abilene of
1 AAAA goes into conference’play
and wouldn't appear in any dan-
ger. The mighty Eagles engage
Odessa at Abilene in a game
counting in the District 2 stand-
ings. It now appears the only test
of any proportions facing the
Eagles in another sweep to the
playoffs is San Angelo. The latter
beat Midland 21-6 last week to re-
main with Abilene as the only un-
beaten teamfin district as well
as season play.
Crucial games are on from top
to bottom this week. The feature
of Class AAAA is Denison vs.
Wichita Falls for the undisputed
lead in District 7.
Class AAA is filled with head-
line games. Breckenridge clashes
with Graham for the lead in Dis-
trict 4, Kilgore meets Nacogdoches
in a similar game in District 7
and LaMarque and Bay City de-
cide the top spot in District 12.
Abilene. San Angelo, Amarillo
Palo Duro, Dallas Highland Park
and Wichita Falls are the last un-
defeated, untied teams in AAAA.
Houston Lamar. Galveston and
Corpus Christi Ray are unbeaten
but tied.
Class AAA has only two teams
left with perfect records—Snyder
1 and Nederland. Those two teams
might well meet in the finals.
Littlefield, Phillips and Cleburne
• are undefeated but tied.
Pecos, Cleburne, El Campo and
San Marcos fell out of the un-
defeated. untied ranks of AAA lst
week. Cleburne played a 0-0 tie
with Palestine and remained
among the unbeaten although tied
with Littlefield and Phillips.
