Mary Ann Kendall, Billy Jane
Sparks and Jean Wood sang “The
Beautiful Land on High.” The pas-
tor, the Rev. Hugh R. Bumpas,
brought a splendid message appro-
priate to Independence Day, read-
ing for the basis of the message
Prov. 14:34, “righteousness exalteth
a nation, but sin is a reproach to
any people.” Also 1 Sam.l:3, and 2
Chronicles 7:14, “If My people,
which are called by My name, shall
humble themselves, and pray- and
seek My face, and turn from their
wicked ways; then will I hear from
Heaven, and will for give their sin,
and will heal their land.”
The pastor read from' the Con-
stitution of the United States, and
from former presidents Washing-
ton. Lincoln, Teddy Roosevelt and
Woodrow Wilson, giving their faith
in the Bible and religion. The pas- f
tor said we need courage to stand
for God, and if we will comply
with God’s conditions, as outlined
in 2 Chron.7:14, as quoted above,
this war will end and every prob-
lem will be solved. He said our peo-
ple, Christian people, and this na-
tion have sinned and forgotten
God, that if we will humble our-
selves, and pray and turn from
our wickedness, and seek His face,
God will stop this war. He closed
by reading Deut. 4:29.
At the evening service Pastor
Bumpas read for his text John 10:
27-29 “My sheep hear my voice,
and I know them, and they follow
Me; and I give unto them eternal
life; and they shall never perish,
neither shall any man pluck them
out of My hand. My Father, which
gave them Me is greater than all;
and no man is able to pluck them
out of My Father’s hand.” The pas-
tor likened the message to an in-
surance policy and asked why in-
sure with God? Answering the
preacher said it is the oldest insur-
ance company, as having existed
before the world began; the strong-
est, having unlimited resources; the
largest number of policy holders, ;
from the dawn of creation to the
present day; that there are no dis-
satisfied or disappointed policy
holders; that all share alike with
Christ, with Whom we are joint or
equal heirs; that it is a policy 1
that will hold against the ship-
wrecks of storms; will stand in 1
