and Sunset had comparatively easy
times moving into the second
round of the championship playoffs '
last weelk, but not so for Amarillo,
Highland Park, Lufkin and Waco.
Each of the last four ran into the
stubbornest of opposition and only
managed to pull their games out
of the fire by slim margins—two
of them by the penetration routes.
With Dwayne Dodson, George
Graham and Ken Carley setting
the pace, San Angelo waltzed to a
lopsided 40-0 victory' over Austin
of El Paso with reserves stream-
ing into the game as coach Jewel
Wallace attempted to keep the
score down.
Coach Tom Dennis evidently did
not want to show Austin scouts
too much of his vaunted attack
Saturday and his port Arthur Yel-
low Jackets were content to con-
vert a pass interception, a recover-
ed fumble and a 58-yard sustained
drive into a 21-0 victory over La-
mar of Houston—a team they had
permit a single penetration to set-
tle a scoreless tie.
A 34-yard gallop by reserve back
Ed Gill and Paul Miller's convers-
ion saved the day for Amarillo ov-
er an unyielding Wichita Falls el-
even.

in four of the eight bi-district

week's quarterfinal games.
■ For, aside from the San Angelo-
Amarillo contest, there will be no
games in which victory by either
side could be labelled an upset.
