O God, who for our redemption didst
give thine only-begotten Son to the
death of the Cross, and by His glorious
resurrection hast delivered us from the
power of our enemy: Grant us so to die
daily from sin. that we may evermore
live with him in the joy of his resurrec-
tion: through the same thy Son Christ
our Lord. Amen.

The South Plains College base-
ball team started their con-
ference play off by splitting a
doubleheader with San Angelo
College Saturday, March 270
The Texans dropped the first
game 14-4, but came back to win
the second game 4-3.
In the first game the Texans
scored one run in the first, two
in the second, and one in the
seventh. The SAC Rams, who
had a big second inning, scored
seven runs in that one frame.
After that they were ahead all
the way.
Mike Kitten satrted for the
Texans, and he was charged with
the loss. Donny Johnston and
Ronnie Phillips also pitched in
the first game.
The second game was a
pitchers duel as Phil Stephenson
held the Rams to four hits and
the Rams’ Tommy Gramly
allowed only nine hits.
The Rams grabbed the lead in
the first inning when they scored
two runs. But the SPC nine came
back to tie the score 2-2 in their
half of the second inning.
A single talley for both teams
in the third made it 3-3 at the
end of the third inning.
The winning run for the Texans
came in the fourth inning after
Ronny Baker was hit by a pitch
and scored on a single by Ralph
Cox.
Phil Stephenson, who worked
all seven innings, was credited
with the win. He gave up only
two earned runs, walked six,
and struck out ten SAC batters.
The Texans now stand 1-1 for
conference play and 5-3 for the
season.

way to Ronnie Phillips in the
fourth. Mike Kitten finished the
game and was the winning
pitcher.
The second game was a little
different story as the Texans
managed only one run off
Eastern starter Bruce Terrill.
This run came in the first
inning as Ralph Cox led off
with a single, moved to second
on a sacrafice by Vic Hines,
and scored on a single by Rudy
Foster.
Eastern scored four runs in
the third and one in the sixth
for their margin of victory.
Larry Cates went the distance
for the Texans and was charged
with the loss.
The Texans now stand 4-2
for non-conference play.
The South Plains College
Vol ley ball team traveled to
Hardin Simmons in Abilene,
Sat., Apr. 3, to enter compe-
tition among five other colleges
for a tournament playoff.
SPC won two out of three
games over Odessa College with
the scores being 15-7, 12-15,
18-16. The Texan team also
won over Howard County Junior
College two out of two with
the scores being 15-1, and 15-12.
Competing for first place,
SPC played Lamar Tech and
lost two out of two. This game
placed SPC in second place
in the tournament and gave them
a second place trophy.
Two members of the team
w ere selected for the al l-lourna-
ment team as spikers. The
girls chosen were Judy Wood-
ward and Betty Roberts.
Track Team In Meet
Five members of the Texan
track team entered the Texas
Relays at Austin last weekend
and turned in good per-
formances.
The mile relay team of Gary
McKee, Larry Witt, Ronny
Green, and C.A. Lynn ran the
mile relay in 3:29.8. The four
ran the 5th best JC 440 relay.
McKee and Green ran the 100
yard dash in 10.2 and 10.3.
Witt ran the 120 yard high
hurdles in 15.3. Darrell Yoakum
put the shot 40’2”.
The Texans go to Roswell
this weekend, then have a home
meet Wed., April 14, with Tech
Frosh, Amarillo, and NMMI.

Chatter Box
It seems that my somewhat
editorial type column last edi-
tion brought a few reactions,
some favorable and some un-
favorable. Still, I have sounded
off and all know my feelings
toward school spirit, or lact of
it as the case may be. There
is still a lot to be done before
the school year ends.
The Western dance did not
get the desired attendance that
the rodeo club would have liked,
but I think all of those who
went enjoyed themselves.
Everyone should have gone just
to see “Cowboy Dobbs” and
his gal “Calamity Cathey” —
minus the western attire on this
occasion.
The SPC baseball team is
really doing great this season.
We have lost more games than
we wanted to lose, but actually
nine of our players have al-
ready been cited as “pros”...
When one thinks of the little
thing that made them that way-
one has to know that the SPC
team is a real exception. (In
most cases it would have been
a case!) When I speak of “pros”
please do not confuse the abbre-
viation with any idea of a pro-
fessional!
Congratulations to Linda
Kaye Whitten and her new hus-
band, Jimmy Don Whitson.
Linda and Jimmy Don were
married March 27. As most of
you know Linda was the home-
coming queen this year and
Jimmy Don is ... well let me
just say he is one of the Brown-
field clan.
Bob Ellis was rather disturb-
ed after finding that Jimmy Don
had married without anyone
knowing it. There was a sort
of high school oath taken that
neither of the two would marry
without the other knowing it.
The last time I saw Jimmy
Don he was running down College
Avenue with Bob close behind.
Jimmy Don have you decided
what you will be doing tonight?
I hope everyone has been
keeping up with all of the sports
activities in the P.E. classes.
A lot of the students are play??
ing badmitton and volleyball,
but Cheryl Gill has everyone
beat with her performance on
the trampoline! The only thing
is that the girls standing around
the trampoline had a few minor
objections to some of her more
unique (?) tricks.
I think Freddie Pickett must
be in some sort of popularity
contest in Fraiser Hall. Why
else would anyone wait to fill
his slippers with honey*? Every-
one knows he sure doesn’t have
a sweet tooth, but a sweet
foot is a little unreasonable,
don’t you think?
By the way, John Barrett, do
you really think Freddie is
going to introduce you to any
of his “babes” if you keep
bidding in his closet and mak-
ing him think his conscience is
giving him trouble?
Melvin Davis, what is this I
hear about a “black bear” chas-
ing you to Brownfield the other
night? When no one could find
Melvin they became rather up-
set, thinking he might be out
playing with the trucks again,
but as things turned out Melvin
only wanted to have a nice con-
versation with Sharon,
The psychology classes went
to the state mental hospital in
Big Spring last Friday, and we
had a little trouble getting all of
the class members back to
Levelland. It was not so bad
when Sam Brown was asked to
get off the bus, but when our
instructor, Mr. Adair, had to
run away from a “straight
