Heavy gains in issuance and re-
ceipt of money orders at the local
post office were no.ted during De-
cember over the same month a
year ago, but a slight decrease was
detected in total amounts of postal
savings deposits.
A total of 1,714 money orders to
the amount of $16,108.25 was is-
sued last month as compared with
1,765 orders to the amount of $14,-
813.71 issued during December,
1940.
While a total of $14,255.96 in 1,-
735 orders was paid out at the local
office last month, only 1,314 orders
amounting to $8,815.47 were ac-
knowledged during the same pe-
riod a year ago.
Postal savings deposit statistics
are as follows: last month 195 ac-
counts on hand totaling $148,389;
Dec. 1940, a total of 178 accounts
on hand amounting to $155,420.
A total of $41,895 was deposited
to postal savings accounts last
month, and $11,779 was paid out,
as compared with $6,976 deposited
and $6,258 paid out during Decem-.
ber, 1940.
