Your-Ideas plan continues to grow,”
Chairman F. A. Watts of the Central
Committee said in his quarterly re-
port, following recent awards to
Humble employes for their practical
suggestions for improving the effi-
ciency and safety of operations, gen-
erally.
“The committee was unanimous in
its praise of the business-like and
explanatory manner in which ideas
were received,” he continued.
A total of $2,555.00 in cash was
announced by the committee, as
awards which were distributed among
80 employes for meritorious ideas.
This total includes the initial

an economic as well as efficient op-
eration.
Under the enlarged Coin-Your-
Ideas plan, supplemental awards
were also given Baytown refinery em-
ployes for practical suggestions
which have already brought them
initial awards.
G. M. Ellis of the treater depart-
ment received the highest supple-
mental award—a check for $100.00.
He received the maximum initial
award of $75.00 in 1937 for his sug-
gested installation of a doctor settler
at the treaters which effected a sub-
stantial saving of gasoline in doctor
tanks and increased the safety of
operations.
Paul H. Mears of the distillation
department received a $50.00 award
for his suggestion to by-pass cold
crude around the vapor-to-crude ex-
changers on stills, and introduce it
into the top part of crude reflux sec-
tions on vacuum domes which re-
sulted in increased operating effi-
ciency. Paul received an initial award
on this idea in 1937.
