131-Introductory Education. An introduction to the whole field of
education. The aims, organization and procedures in public schools are
considered from the standpoint of the rise of the educational history
and philosophy of the American people. Class: 3 hours. Credit: 3 semester
hours.
132-Educational Psychology. A survey of the physical bases and the
mental processes of learning. Psychological vocabulary, methods of study
in psychological procedure, testing methods, and literature of psychology
are given consideration. Class: 3 hours. Credit: 3 semester hours.
133-Principles of Elementary Education. Introduction to elementary
education with emphasis on organization and practices of the elementary
school. Includes a survey of the modern elementary school through visi-
tation of public schools and extensive reading of current periodicals and
other professional literature. Class: hours. Credit: 3 semester hours.
134-First Course in Music for Elementary Teachers. A general orien-
tation course to meet the needs of the classroom teacher in elementary
education. A basic course in the study of scales, chords, music terminology,
signatures, intervals, sight singing and rhythm. Class: 3 hours. Credit: 3
semester hours.
135-First Course in Art for Elementary Teachers. A general orien-
tation course to meet the needs of the classroom teacher in elementary
education. A basic course in the fundamentals of color, design and let-
tering and in the rudiments of drawing. Class: 3 hours. Credit: 3 se-
mester hours.
137-Speech for Elementary Teachers. Active participation of stu-
dents in reading aloud poetry and prose for the elementary level, story-
telling to audiences of children, discussion and conversation, parliamentary
procedure needed at the elementary school level, and speaking for occa-
sions which commonly take place in the elementary school. Class: 3 hours.
Credit: 3 semester hours.
231-232-Methods and Materials in Elementary School. A compre-
hensive study of subject matter, methods, and materials used in the
eight grades of elementary schools. Student activity and participation is
emphasized in class work during which teaching demonstrations in sub-
jects in the elementary field are given. Prerequisite: Edu. 131-132 and
sophomore standing. Class: 3 hours. Credit: 3 semester hours per course.
