1. A student may not register for two courses in English to be taken

2. Students enrolled in English 131 who need to change to English
130 for any reason may not make such change after the first
seven weeks of the semester.
English
130-Fundamentals. A review of the fundamentals of English gram-
mar. Primarily planned for those who are deficient in high school English.
Class: 3 hours. Credit: 3 semester hours.
131-Composition. Drill in the fundamentals of the English language.
English composition, oral and written, with special attention to sentence
structure, common errors in grammar, spelling, punctuation, vocabulary
building, and development of the paragraph. Frequent themes. In the
study of literature special attention to the essay. Collateral reading. Class:
3 hours. Credit: 3 semester hours.
132-Composition. Study of diction and sentence rhetoric and review
of the basic principles studied in Engl. 131. Frequent themes. In the study
of literature special attention to at least three of the following: the novel,
the biography, the short story, the drama and representative poetry.
Collateral reading. Prerequisite: Engl. 131 with a grade of "C" or bet-
ter. Class: 3 hours. Credit: 3 semester hours.
133-Composition (Foreign Students). Special attention to pronun-
ciation, vocabulary building, spelling, sentence structure, and grammar.
Reading and discussion of periodicals. Class: 3 hours. Credit: 3 semester
hours.
134-Composition (Foreign Students). Continuation of mechanics of
133. Frequent practice in oral and written expression. Graded reading
selections. Prerequisite: English 133 with grade of "C" or better. Class:
3 hours. Credit: 3 semester hours.
231-232-Survey of English Literature. An introduction to the study
of language and literature of England. Frequent papers. Individual as-
signments in outside readings. Prerequisite: Engl. 131-132 with a grade
of "C" or better in each. Credit for English 231 must be made before
registering for English 232. Class: 3 hours. Credit: 3 semester hours per
course.
234-Technical Report Writing. Basic principles for writing technical
reports and articles. Planned primarily for engineering students. Pre-
requisite: Engl. 231. Class: 3 hours. Credit: 3 semester hours.
331-332-Selections from American Literature. Choice of outstanding
American authors in poetry and prose from the colonial times to the pres-
ent, selected with the purpose of reflecting the life and thought of the
times. Designed primarily for those not majoring in English. Prerequisite:
English 131-132 or 133-134 with grade of "C" or better in each. Class: 3
hours. Credit: 3 semester hours per course.
