SCHOLARSHIPS
Many interested organizations and citizens annually give to deserv-
ing students a large number of scholarships which are awarded on a
basis of merit. Generally, these scholarships are for tuition and fees
only; however, in some cases they provide for textbooks and other
expenses. Anyone interested in applying for a scholarship may obtain
additional information concerning the program from the Chairman of
the Scholarship Committee.
During the 1955-56 session, the following sholarships were awarded:
Valedictorian Scholarships:
Lamar State College of Technology offers a scholarship to the high-
est ranking graduate of each fully affiliated high school of Texas.
Each scholarship exempts the holder from the tuition fee of $25.00
per semester, provided he uses it during the long session immediately
following graduation. The scholarship is valued at $50.00 for nine months.
Students with Physical Handicaps: (Vocational Rehabilitation)
The State Board for Vocational Education through the Vocational
Rehabilitation Division, offers assistance on tuition to students who have
certain physical disabilities, provided the vocational objective selected
by the disabled person has been approved by a representative of the
Division. Application for Vocational Rehabilitation assistance should be
