Bachelor of Science-Social Science Major
This interdepartmental program is for students who desire a broader
or a different type program from that provided by a departmental major
and minor. Students taking this program who expect to study for advanced
degrees should meet the language requirements for such degrees.
The subject matter fields from which the combined major and minor
may be selected are as follows: economics, government, history, sociology,
and certain other courses from business administration, industrial engineer-
ing, and psychology.
The requirements for the combined major and minor are as follows:
18 semester hours from one field with a minimum of 6 hours in advanced
courses, and 30 semester hours from at least two other fields with a
minimum of 12 hours in advanced courses.
Courses will be arranged to meet the specialized interests and needs
of the individual student. The educational objectives for which programs
of study may be planned include the following:
1. General Liberal Arts Education
2. Teaching
3. General and Public Welfare and Social Welfare Work
4. Human Relations in Business and Industry
5. Preparation for a Career in the Federal Civil Service
6. Pre-professional Training:
a. Religious Education
b. The Ministry
c. Social Work
DEPARTMENT OF ENGLISH
Bachelor of Arts-English Major
The major program consists of thirty semester hours in English
(i.e., twenty-four above 131 and 132 which are basic skill courses pre-
paratory to all college programs). Twelve of these hours must be from
advanced courses. The major in English should select a large amount
of supporting work from modern languages, the social sciences, and
speech.
The minor program consists of twenty-four semester hours in Eng-
lish (i.e., eighteen above 131 and 132), of which six must be from ad-
vanced courses.
