। BIBLE SCHOOLS DRAW
GOOD ATTENDANCE
Two vacation Bible schools end-
ed the past week in which many
of the youngsters of the commu-
nity were enrolled. The total en-
rollment for the two schools was
169. Workers in the Methodist
Bible School were Alma Howard,
Mrs. Leroy Baker, Karen Collins,
Barbara Lewis, Mrs. Jim Powers,
Mrs. Gene Gaston, Lynette Pow-
ers, June Trayler, Mrs. Russ How-
ard, Mrs. John Darnell, Mrs. Jerry
O’Neal, Sue Williams, and Mrs.
T. F. Collins. Enrollment was 45.
In the Baptist vacation Bible
school 114 were enrolled and the

52 ATTEND SUMMER SCHOOL
AT SACRED HEART CHURCH
A week of summer school at
Sacred Heart Church was enjoy-
ed so much by the 52 pupils at-
tending that some asked for more.
The school opened Monday morn-
ing, June 7, and closed with the
Sunday morning Mass, June 13.
Communion hymns were sung
| throughout the Mass by the chil-
dren who received Holy Commun-
ion in a body. The group includ-
ed three first communicants, Lar-
ry May, Gary Kotara, and Julie
Meredith.
Classes were conducted in the
parish hall and prayer periods in
the church. The upper grades re-
viewed the Old Testament period
of the Judges and of the kings,
Saul and David. The lower grades
did new Testament work, study-
ing Christ’s institution of the sac-
raments.
Rehearsal of the Missa cum Jub-
l ilo in . honor of the Virgin Mary
of Our Fathers,” “The Priceless
Love of Jesus,” and “In Heaven’s
Holy Garden,” were added to the
25 hymns learned by the children
during the past 18 months.
Sister M.. Albeus, in charge of
the school, was assisted by Sister
Joseph Michael, musician. Both
nuns are from Saint Mary’s
Academy in Amarillo.
There were morning and after-
noon recesses for games and re-
freshments. The mothers of the
Sacred Heart Altar Society pre-
pared the Sisters’ meals during
their stay.

COMPLETION OF ELEVATOR
ANNEX SET FOR JUNE 28
The annex to the Barnett Ele-
vators will be completed about
June 28, according to Dalton Ford.
The annex will bring the capacity
of the elevator to 310,000 bushels.
The older part of the elevator
will be used for government stor-
age while the annex is expected
to be used for this year’s crop.
Ford said that about 25 graneries
have been purchased by local far-
mers, and that many more are
- expected to be bought. Supply
and demand will govern the pur-
chases of these graneries.

IS WELL ATTENDED
Mrs. Hoyt Taylor was hostess
to the Busy Bee Home Demon-
stration Club in her home recent-
ly. During the business meeting
Mrs. Jay Phillips gave a report
on the playground equipment that
the club is placing in the city park.
She stated that the equipment
has been ordered and that some
of it will be assembled here while
other parts are to be made by
local men.
Mrs. Hoyt Taylor and Mrs.
Carol Pearston were appointed to
see Mrs. W. Lf Potter, local li-
brarian, regarding posters adver-
tising the summer reading pro-
gram and the children’s story
hour which is scheduled for July.
Mrs. Gene McCormick, club
president, was elected as nominee
for THDA delegate from the Busy
Bee Club to the Carson County
Council in Panhandle.
Mrs. Phillips volunteered to rep-
resent the club by attending the
cake decorating training meeting
which will be held soon in the of-
fice of Charlotte Thompkins in
Panhandle. A vote carried for
the club to have a marketing com-
mittee with plans to be discussed
at a later meeting.
Mrs. C. L. Nicholson was in
charge of an enlightening program
on “comic books, blueprints for
delinquency,” with Mmes. L. A.
Puckett, Carol Pearston and Joe
Wheeler, assisting. Excerpts from
a 1953 issue of Ladies Home Jour-
nal and the May, 1954, Readers
Digest, were read in connection
with the subject.
Plans were made for a club
family picnic which was held in
Central City Park, later during
the week.

Why America’s
General Hospital, Pampa, follow-
ing a car accident which happened
on a trip to Okla., where they were
to be at the bedside of an aunt of
Mrs. Driskill. Cause of the acci-
dent was a blow-out on a rear tire
of their automobile, and reports
are that the car was a complete
and total loss. Mr. Driskill and
Raymond were in Kansas at the
tjme of the accident, but have re-
turned home.
B. O. Bentley has been a pa-
tient at Highland Hospital, Pam-
pa, this week.
Mr. and Mrs. Vic Bates have
returned from Quanah and Wich-
ita Falls. He plans to work at
Barnett Elevators during the har-
vesting season.
Carolyn Evans, daughter of Mr.
and Mrs. Frank Evans, was among
seven Wayland College student
leaders recently elected as student
government association council
leaders. She has been a campus
favorite for two years, a member
of Mike' and Mask, a dramatic or-
ganization, and the Mission Band.
She served on the council "previ-
ously as commissioner of elections.
Her new job is commissioner of
social life on the campus.
Don Mackey of Ardmore, Okla.,
is spending the summer months
with Mr. and Mrs. Dave Hodges.
Mr. and Mrs. Sam Bednorz an-
nounce the arrival on June 1 of
little Marla Jean. The couple re-
side in Almogordo, N.M.
