Well, all bad things must come
to an end (including this column)
and the initiation really ended
well. Saturday morning the “Big
Sisters” called their victims to a
“come as you are” party at Wil-
liam’s, and Saturday night they
were given a swell dance at the
“Rainbow Room”.
Helen was with Herbert Friday,
Saturday, and Sunday nights.

Maybe Mother and the rest of you take this
faithful servant for granted. When you flick a
switch you expect the power to be there —in-
stantly— always. And the fact that it is didn’t
just happen. It comes from the friendly efficiency
of the folks in this company.

with a very deep frown, and
wondered what it is, it is their
city plans. This is a phase that
always brought cold chills to Mr.
Hough’s civics classes. The idea
of the plan is to produce ideal
city, modern and beautiful. Of
course, none of these plans, will
ever be used on a city, but it helps
to give the individual student an
idea of what his city should be
like and it also gives him the in-
centive to work for a better city
of his own.
MOTHER’S LITTLE HELPER
Yes, little sister swings an inspired broom! She’s
Mother’s Little Helper — and what a help she is!
Mother has a Big Helper, too — a really efficient
helper—always at her finger-tips — ready to cook
and wash and clean — ready to make life easier
for all the family.
This tireless helper of course, is electric service.
It does a lot of jobs at low wages. It never asks
for time off.

BOOKS
The world today is filled with
books. There are books on every
subject and books for every pur-
pose. Since we live with so many
books, we take them for granted.
This was not true before the in-
vention of the printing press.
Books were very expensive and
" scarce. Only a few of the very
wealthy could read: As the poor,
er class learned to read, they
treasured their few books and
wore them out reading and re-
reading them.
Today we cannot understand
why we are required to read and
make reports on books. It is
through books that we learn.
Books were used to teach us to
write. Now they are used to in.
crease our vocabulary and to help
us to express ourselves better.
Through books a better educa-
tion is available. Let us all take
advantage of this and read more.
LUDUS INITIATION
There may be “Something rot-
ten in Denmark” but there was
quite a little sent up at Silsbee.Hi
last week. The Ludus Club mem-
bers were initiating their “Little
Sisters”. They could not wear any
make_.up; so it gave the boys a
chance to see natural beauty.
Many of them, are still suffering
from shock. The “Little Sisters”
had to wear the same dress all
week. Of Course, the dresses
didn’t get dirty, but for some rea-
son everyone calls the girls “Lit-
tle Stinkers” now.
