CRAPPIE FISHING RETURNS
BIGGER. BETTER THAN EVER
Bigger and better crappie fishing has returned to Denton after
the rains slowed activities last week.
However, fishing has shifted somewhat from the creeks to the
barges.
Mrs. Ruth Crossland of Dallas caught 25 weighing to half a pound.
Wanda Pharr caught 15 and Mr. and Mrs. W. Boettcher captured
45 in barge fishing.
There have been crappie reported up to two pounds since the
rains ceased.
At present crappie are biting on Cottonwood and Hackberry
creeks and are biting at night up to 11 p.m.
Cottonwood creek is the first creek south of the town of Little
Elm and Hackberry is the next creek past-Cottonwood.
On Grapevine Lake sand bass are starting to bite and several
schools have been reported.
Now through April 8 fishing is supposed to be at its best accord-
ing to the fishing calendar.
PORTABLE TARGET
• A portable 25 x 25 x 3% inch archery target that unfolds to form
its own easel stand is one of the new items in the Shakespeare
archery line-up for 1961. Called the No. TW 24 Wonder Target,
it is claimed to weigh only ten pounds and its inner fiber glass
construction enables it to hold arrows shot from bows up to 60
pounds. The outer package tray is waterproof waxed. The new
target is being used in schools, ranges, for back yard shooting and
in other places where straw targets may be objectionable. The
list price is $11.95.

LIGHT TACKLE
Hundreds of thousands of new zealots every year are swelling
the ranks of the thrill-seeking sports fishing elite—The light tac-
kle user. With monofilament lines of only six to eight pound test
and light action glass fiber fishing rods of six to seven feet in
length, these fishermen find that they can tangle with most any
type of fresh water fish and come out of the fray victorigusly: I
the rgulatd safety slippage of drag such as that on the Shakes-
peare Push-Button WonderCast combined with the arching pressure
of the held-up-high glass fiber rod provides plenty of stopping pow-
er to turn big fish away from snags, brush or weeds The big 1
benefit of push button casting, however, is its no backlash casting
ease which is easily mastered
