True conversion to Jesus
Christ is based on conviction -
not convenience. Likewise,
faithfulness to Christ is based
on conviction - not convenience.
It ie e sad spectacle, there-
fore, to observe ao many pro-
fessed believers in Christ who
are following Jesus according t
to convenience rather then
conviction. The tragic, part
about it is that such church
members are not truly convert-
ed to the Lord, because if they
were really converted on the
basis of their conviction they
would faithfully obey Christ out
of the same conviction. _____
Somewhere along the way,.,
somehow these casual church
members have led themeelves

easy, comfortable and con-
venient way to Hgaven. They
have never soberly meditated
upon the far-reaching implica-
tions of Statements made- by
Jesus, such as: “If any man
will corfie after me, let him
deny himself, and take up his
cross daily, and follow me.”
(Luke 9:23)
Self-denial is essential to true
discipleship; further, it must
be a daily relationship with the
Lord - not seasonal. His will
must be foremost in the Christ-
isn’s heart - above every con-
sideration, whether it be
family, health, finances, occu-
pation or pleasure (Luke 14:
26-35). It was this demanding
call for self-sacrifice that led
many disciples of Jesus to turn ,
away from the Master. They
thought his teachings were too
hard. (John 6:60-667 They were
not willing to pay the price of
true discipleship.
Likewise, today men are not
willing to pay the price of true
discipleship. For example, wor- .
ship has ceased to be a privi-
lege and has become a burden
to many. When the time comes

landscape plant for Texas. Some
people like it, others do not.
Granted, it ia thorny, has out-
rageous growth habits, but in
the tall when its branches are
laden with a heavy coat of
colorful red berries, it would
be hard to deny it to a place in
the landscape.
One at the myths of the pyra-
cantha ia that the berries are
poisonous. If you’ve ever
watched a bird fee st on a branch
at pyracantha berries, perhaps
you have wondered if they were
indeed poisonous.
— — The fact la, pyracantha
berries are entirely edible and
there is at least one recipe
I I’ve discovered for pyracanthe

So, if you have a surplus of
pyracantha berries this fall,
and would just as soon the
birds did not rob you of all
at them, you might enjoy the
taste of pyracantha jelly. It is
quite tasty; much like apple
jelly in appearance and flavor.
Here it is. for you aspiring

for the saints to assemble to
worship, it is inconvenient to
turn off the television set and
leve the comforts of a nice
home. Yes, from the purely
selfish viewpoint, it is incon-
venient - just as a. Belly rell-
gion is more inconvenient for
selfish people than a seasonal
religion.
Jesup did not find the path
to Calvary’s mountain easy or
comfortable or convenient. No,
Jesus suffered, “leaving ua an .
example, that we would follow
his steps." (1 Peter 2:210) If
the Master's Way was challeng-
ing, costly, demanding and seif-
denying, those who follow to
His steps should not expect a
soft, convenient andunchalleng-
tog way. "Verily, verity,,
unto you, the Servant la not
- greater than Tito Lord." (John
13:16)
Our Lord never taught or
practiced a haif-hearted,
watered-down, spineless, in-
offensive, word-only religion. It
is time for all believers to
realize that Christ is the author
of eternal salvation to all who
obey Him (Hebrews 5:8-9) and
who lived dedicated lives of
faithful service to His honor
and glory even unto death. (Rev-
elation 2:10)
When faith works by love,
service is not inconvenient nor
burdensome: “For thia ia the
love of God, that we keep Ms
commandments; and his com-
mandments are not grievous."
0 John 5:3).
