Foundation) was really interested
.in attending the annual meeting (
of the membership Monday after-
noon. Buddy Schoellkopf, whose
name is familiar to several hun-
dred employees in his plant i n
West Mineola, made the trip to
Mineola that morning via his
airplane — nothing unusual, ex-
cept for the considerable amount
of ground fog that had plagued
commercial flights in this area.
Buddy’s persistence was so im-
pressive that he was elected to
the board of directors of the
Foundation!

Furniture to Mr. and Mrs. Dan
Martel, newcomers to Mineola.
The Merritts, both of whom
are orchid fanciers and seasoned

Five Distributive Education stu-
dents at Mineola High School,
along with instructor Mrs. Ken -
neth Wagner, will travel to
Houston Friday afternoon for the
annual state convention of Distri-
butive Education Clubs of Ameri-
ca (DECA).
The students, who will make
the trip with Mrs. Wagner in her
car, are Rosemary Johnson, Tri-
cia Blaylock, Rickey Love, Sam-
my Boykin and Thomas Prince.
Parents, teachers and other
interested persons are invited. to
hear a panel discussion modera-
ted by Cary Butler, Mineola High

John Ray Armour of Mineola
is serving as treasurer of Delta
Sigma Pi. international pro-
fessional business fraternity, a t
North Texas State University.
Armour, son of Mr. and Mrs,
J. H. Armour, 407 Ivey, is a
senior accounting major. He is
also a member of the Talons ser-
vice club, the Accounting Club ,
and the Young Republicans.
Mineola schools were closed
down at the end of the school day
last Wednesday, because of ab-
sented-an which had passed the
25% mark in the high school.
Classes were suspended for
Thursday and Friday of last
week, to hopes that most of the
students would be able to return
to school this week. . _
On Monday, absenteeism i n
Mineola High School had decreas-
ed by about forty, and continued
to show improvement on Tuesday.
Total absentees on Tuesday,
however, throughout the twelve
grades amounted to about the
same as for last Wednesday, with

Stockholders of the Mineola In-
dustrial Foundation were brought
up to date at their annual meet-
ing on Monday, Jan. 27, of the
name change of the organization
to the “Mineola Foundation” dur-
ing a re-incorporation last year
under the Texas Non-Profit Cor-
poration Act.
The annual meeting was held
at 12:30 p.m. Monday, in the
Herm’s Restaurant dining room,
following the luncheon meeting of
the Mineola Rotary Cub.
The by-laws of the new organi-
zation were read at the meeting
by president Walter Judge, and
were approved unanimously by
voice vote of the membership of
the Mineola Foundation.

to three-year terms of office on

completed Tuesday night, Jan. 31,
three teems were tied for first
place in District 18AA basketball.
The Wills Point Tigers had de-
feated the Quitman Bulldogs in
district play; the Bulldogs had
chewed up the Canton Eagles:
and the Eagles had stomped the
Tigers. And those losses were
the only ones for the three teams
in first-round play, leaving each
with a record of four wins and
one loss.
This year, the 18AA represen-
tative in state playoffs 18 to be
the winner of a playoff between
the first and second round cham-
pions. Wills Point snagged a t
least a 50% chance of being that
representative by winning a three-
way playoff last week for the
