was no suffering to amount to any-

were in town yesterday, laid in a good
supply of provisions, as they say they

Co.'s Weekly Review of Trade tomor-
row will say:
"Some disturbance lias been caused by
the elements, but the conditions are
otherwise unusually satisfactory for the
season. Distribution of merchandise is
of liberal proportions. Manufacturing
is still the best feature, especially in
the various departments of the iron and
steel industry, while textile mills and
shoe shops are well engaged. Some im-
provement is noted in placing of ad-
vance orders, but this is a favorable
symptom and indicatihg the absence uf
the reckless operations. Rallroad earn-
ings in January were 4 per cent larger
than in 1904.
"Favorable reports are received from
almost every department of the iron
and steel industry, even steel rails shar-
ing the better feeling, orders on the
books now exceeding apmTllion tons.
"Notwithstanding the firmer tone of
the raw material, several varleties of
cotton goods have been reduced and
the market bag developed much irregu-
larity,
"Hides have ruled fairly steady, na-
tive steers constituting the bulk of of-
ferings.
