In one sense—which we believe
is the. most exalted meaning of
the word—we believe that all
men in civilized countries, at
least, are religious in such
degree as conditioned by educa-
tion and material well-being.
All civilization, accepts • the
Golden Rule as the essence of
all religion—religion in practice.
Most men practice it so far as
their frailties of ignorance and
selfishness permit; men can
understand the doctrine of the
Brotherhood of Mankind more
easily than they can the dogmas
of the trinity or of vicarious
atonement; and when not blinded
by ignorance, or the errors of
tradition, most men are disposed
to do the things that are univer-
sally accepted as good and right,
and most men, in that sense, are
religious.

For the prohibitionist who hon-

liquor traffic, we have profound
respect, much as we disagree
with the wisdom of his policy.
For the grafter who attempts to
use the issue to "mouch" money

One of the cleanest games that
our boys have played this season
was that on the 22nd at the
barbecue. The Blue Ribbons
did not make a score in the first
three innings, but in the fourth
and fifth they threatened to take
the game from us but there they
stalled. Our boys got full value
out of every inning save the fifth
or sixth. The Blue Ribbons
thought that fate had only taken
the game played here two weeks
ago, but now "they realize that

Any settlement of the contro-
versy, we believe, depends on
the definition of religion.
Without looking at a diction-
ary, we believe that the common
sense estimate of a religious man
is one who belongs, or adheres to
some religious organization and
t conducts himself in accordance
with its regulations and
doctrines. Taking the world
over, a majority of mankind,
perhaps, belongs to the various
hundreds of religious organiza-
tions; but no one will claim that
all members of these many or-
ganizations ar religious. A
considerable number of the
members of these various organ-
izations are in no sense religious;
they do not adhere to all of the
doctrines, nor do they bind

And, again, the members of one
