The commissioners court of this coun-
ty has purchased a twenty-horse power
road engine at a cost of >2.440. The
machine is equipped with all necessary
extras for pulling grades, rolling roads,
furnishing power for rock crushers and
also hauling rock or gravel wagons
on the road. It is guaranteed to de-
velop twenty horse power. There was
considerable difficulty In shipping the
machine, as a special freight car had
to be secured. It has been tested since
arrival.

Colquitt, railroad commissioner. re-
turned to Austin today from an inspec-
tion tour of the Texas Central railroad
and left tonight for a week's vacation
at Mineral Wells. Commissioner Col-
quitt. while not caring to discuss th*
inspection pending his report to the
chairman of the commission. Indicated
that while the road had been consid-
erably handicapped of late, due to
floods, that It was in very good con-
dition.

Austin Aug 22.—-4 Special.)— With re-
ports from 185 counties of the state,
there are 14,994 Confederate soldiery
and 3,207 Confederate widows accounted
for. The taking of this Confederate
Census was required by an act of the
Thirtieth legislattre but as no com-
pensation wm provided for the asses-
sors there was little interest taken in
