ELECTRONIC PROTECTION -
Banking experts warn thill your per-
sonal identification number (PIN) should
never be written on the card that ac-
tivates an Automated Teller Machine.
And. they advise you not to select your
birthdate, or other easily identified
numerals; instead, choose random
figures and memorize them. Since fraud
is being committed, the bankers say it
is not prudent to give PIN to anyone,
and that includes bank employees who
inquire. Check with an authority first.
DIET DOS — First of the year diets
are flagging badly now as dieters try to
maintain interest. One way is to psych
yourself into sticking to it — the tried
and true tricks of the "fat" photo on the
refrigerator: buying something too small
as an incentive; try new and different
diet foods. These work, so employ them
and reward yourself by getting a new
hairdo, or the "works" at a beauty salon.
SHEER DELIGHT - Revive winter-
stained sheer curtains by soaking them
in the washer in cold water and a half
cup of granulated dish detergent. Swish
dishwashing powder through water;
leave panels overnight. Run the
machine through its cycle and let cur-
tains air dry. A light misting with spray
starch will restore them to a crisp finish.
SHADE SHAPE — You can also
renew dingy windowshades. Unroll and
place on a flat surface. Most shades are
plastic; wash in sections with detergent.
Rinse, blot dry. Anchor edges to prevent
curl and then after shade is dry, hang
it full length. Later, rewind and lower
shade to the length desired.
DIAMONDS ARE A ... big invest-
