The Yoakum Lady Bulldogs jumped on
Goliad early en route to a 50-29 District
29-AAA victory over the Tigerettes here
Friday.
The win moved the Lady Bulldogs to 3-4
in district. Yoakum played Palacios Tuesday
night in the last regular season game and
a win would put the Lady Bulldogs in the
playoffs. A Palacios victory, however, would
force a playoff for the third playoff spot.
Yoakum jumped on Goliad with a 17-4
first quarter and were never headed. The
Lady Bulldogs increased the lead to 30-13
at the half and took a 39-19 advantage into
the fourth period.
Kathleen Hermes had her second con-
secutive double double with 15 points and
13 rebounds.
Lori Marburger contributed 12 points,
Cra'Nisha Johnson 8, Skyler Nobles 4, Gayla
Macha 4, Brittany Washington 4 and Mal-
lorie Schafer 2.
Johnson snared 11 rebounds, Marburger
6, Washington 5, Macha 4, Nobles 4, Lauren
Vinklarek 4, Schafer 3.
Nobles dished out 5 assists, Marburger
4, Washington 3, Johnson 2 and Amber
Green 1.
Nobles led in assists with 5, Hermes and
Johnson had 4 each, Marburger 2, Macha 2,
Katie Ullmann 1 and Washington 1.
GONZALES 58, YOAKUM 44
Yoakum fell to co district leader Gonza-
les, 58-44, Jan. 29 in Gonzales.
Gonzales increased its lead after every
period, going up 16-12 at the first break,
31-25 al the half and 42-30 after three
quarters.
Kathleen Hermes had a double double
with 17 points and 12 rebounds.
Skyler Nobles scored 14 points, Brittany
Washington 7, Lori Marburger 2, Mallorie
Schafer 2 and Cra’Nsha Johnson 1.
Marburger and Washington pulled down
8 rebounds apiece Katie Ullmann 5, Nobles
East Bernard, Hempstead, Schulenburg, Brazos
and Weimar to form District 26-AA.
East Bernard, Hempstead and Brazos replace
Edna, Ganado, Industrial and Tidehaven in the
seven-team district.
Ganado, dropped to 1A and Industrial and
Tidehaven will be in District 29-AA with Boling,
Danbury, Hitchcock and Van Vleck.
Ganado will be in District 27 A with Shiner,
Burton, Flatonia, Louise and Somerville.
As usual, there were many other districts
that were changed. Columbus goes to District
25-AAA with Giddings, Bellville, La Grange,
Sealy and Smithville.
In other area districts, Navarro, Karnes City,
Kenedy, Nixon Smiley, Poth and Stockdale will
form District 28-AA.
Randolph dropped out of that district and
will be in 27-AA with Blanco, Comfort, Harper,
Johnson City, San Antonio Brooks Academy and
San Antonio Cole.
Down south, Banquete, Refugio, Blooming-
ton, Odem, Skidmore-Tynan and Taft will make

distirct," said Yoakum AD and head football coach
Dan Burk. “We were happy not be placed in an
odd numbered district.”
Yoakum’s non-district football schedule in-
cludes Columbus, La Grange, Schulenburg, Marion
and Smithville.
District 28-AAA “sister” district is 27-3A made
up of La Vernia, Luling, Marion, Poteet, San An-
tonio Houston, Somerset.
Enrollment numbers for Class 3A were 430-979
students.
The big change is 3A is there are just 28 districts
as compared to 32 in the past.
Around the area, Hallettsville will be in a
district with some new faces.

Class 3A will have 180 schools, 2A 225 and
Class 1A 163 11 man football teams. Class 1A
has 129 six-man football teams and 380 basket-
ball schools.
Enrollment cutoffs were 199 and below for
1A and 200 429 for 2A.

The Yoakum Bulldogs took over
sole possession of second place in the
District 29-AAA race with a big 52-46
win over Goliad here Friday night.
Yoakum heads into play this week
at 3-3 in district, one game ahead of
both Goliad and Cuero. All three are
looking up at first place Gonzales,
who is 6-0.
The Bulldogs, who lost to Goliad
54-47 back on Jan. 15, took a 38-35
lead into the fourth quarter before
outscoring the Tigers, 14-11.
“We played a good game overall,"
Yoakum coach Donald Blank said.
“We looked good offensively when
we ran the offense and played good
defense to hold Goliad under 50
points.
Yoakum led 11-8 at the first break
and extended its lead to 34-24 at the
half. However, the Bulldogs could
muster just 4 third-period points,
allowing the Tigers to cut the lead
to 3.
Josh Tesch scored 14 points and
Craig Johnson 11 to pace the Bull-
dogs, who advanced to 15-14 overall.
Zane Dominguez chipped in with 9
points, William Markert hit 8, Kendall
Renken had 6 and Covey Morrow 4.
Markert and Johnson both had
a pair of threes and Dominguez hit
one.
Markert grabbed 7 rebounds and
Renken, Tesch and Morrow all had
5.
Johnson dished out 4 assists,
Dominguez had 3 and Markert 2.
Johnson had 6 steals, Dominguez
2 and Renken 1.
Renken and Morrow had one
blocked shot each.
Yoakum traveled to Palacios Tues-
day and will have an open date Fri-
day. The Bulldogs visit Cuero in the
regular season finale Feb. 12.

to Gonzales Jan. 29 in Gonzales.
Yoakum led 33-30 at the half before
Gonzales (15-13, 6-0) rallied.
Renken topped the Bulldogs with
16 points, Covey Morrow and Craig
Johnson canned 12 each, Markert
10, Tesch 8, Dominguez 3 and Jesse
Braden 2.
Johnson had a pair of treys and
Markert one.
John Scott poured in 22 points for
Gonzales.
