Returns From Golf Port.
Surgeon White returned today from
Gulf Port and Ocean Springs, where
he had gone to arrange for the camp
at Fontainebleu, on the Louisville A
Nashville road, and stated that he
would not establish any camp on the
Mississippi coast. in view of the atti-
tude of the people of Ocean Springs
and Governor Vardaman’s published
determination to abide by their wishes
Official Detail.
Dr. White has received a dispatch
from Burgeon General Wyman announc-
ing the detailing to this city of eight
officers of the marine hospital service;
os follows:
Passed Assistant Surgeons Rupert
Blue, Joseph Green. John McMullin and
Donald Currie and Assistant Surgeons
Rucker. Steger. Smith and Sweet
The detailing of these men is taken
as an indication that the pledge of the
New Orleans citizens has been accepted
for Monday morning.
Speaking about his plans, Dr. White
said it was his purpose to divide the
city into districts, probably using the
political word subdivisions and a ma-
rine hospital officer will be placed in
charge of each district, with such pro-
fessional help as the size of the dis-
trict and the conditions therein make
necessary.

The fever report today is a great
improvement over those during the
middle of th* week, and that there
were only two new sub-foci, one up-
town and one downtown, is a source
of special encouragement. An effort
is being made to determine the num-
ber of cases of fever under treatment,
and, allowing ten days, which la a lib-
oral estimate, for a patient to either
recover or die, it is figured that there
are now 233 cases under treatment.
Th* marine hospital service has not
yet assumed control of the local situa-
tion, but it is expected that it will do
no tomorrow. The conditions precedent
to th* assumption, that the citizens of
New Orleans pledge themselves to put
up $250,000 t* defray the cost of labor
ana material, have been met, and Sur-
geon White is in momentary expecta-
tion *f receiving the formal order
trom Surgeon General Wyman to take
charge.
Funds Are Provided.
President Roosevelt and Surgeon
General Wyman have both been ad-
vised by the citizens’ committee of
New Orleans that all the funds that
th* service may require, outside of its
•wb stated expenditures, will be sup-
piled by the people of the city. This
action was taken at a special meeting

St. Charles hotel. It followed the
