When the deadline passed last Monday it turned out to be a pretty slow
political year for local county politics in the Democratic and Republican
primaries. . . .
No Republican candidates turned out for any of the county offices
And on the Democratic side it was mostly incumbents who filed

Incumbent County Attorney A J “Jack" Hartel filed for County

Laverne Zbranek failed to draw any opposition on the Democratic Ballot
Incumbent Commissioner Precinct No. 3 Harold Rhoden drew an
opponent. Bucky Havard of the Cleveland Tarkington area filed
Incumbent Cleveland Constable Jesse Wells filed for reelection and did
not draw an opponent
Liberty County District Attorney Carroll Wilborn filed but did not get
an opponent.
Other county filings included: *
The post of Commissioners for Precinct No 1 in Liberty County will not
be contested on the ballot. Incumbent Bobby D Blake of Liberty was the
only person filing for that job.
C. J. Ragio, Jr. incumbent, filed for Constable, Precinct No 1; Jimmy
A. Davis filed for Constable, Precinct No. 2; Robert L. Bardwell filed for
Constable, Precinct No. 3; and Tom White filed for constable, Precinct No.
4..
W. E. Gene Kiker and Charles Elliott filed for Constable, Precinct Nc. 5
and. filing for Constable Precinct No. 7 were J L Decker and Vernon E.
Rogers.
Drainage Commissioners in District No. 2 were unopposed with
Michael J. Barrow, Ronnie E. Davis and Sidney Hill for the three places on
the drainage commission.
Bobby Evans, David Maxwell, and Tommy W. McMullan are
unopposed for the three seats on the board of Drainage District No. 4.

waited in the Civic Center for about 20
minutes before calling for help.
At press time Monday, no sus-
pects had been arrested and the
matter continues to be under investi-
