State Farm, according to
David, rewards good drivers.
Especially, the young and good
driver. Anyone with a good
driving record should investi-
gate how reasonable State
Farm insurance can be.
David and his wife, Button,
want to tell people about the
excellent rates they have fa
insuring recreational vehicles,
such as campers and boats.
They can insure just about
anything in the way of a
recreational vehicle except a
snowmobile, but there is not a
great demand for that.

when livestock eat foreign
material such as wire, nails and
staples. Sickness and death
may be the result.
Problems result when ani-
mals ingest foreign objects and
these penetrate the stomach or
other tissue and cause inflam-
mation. Veterinarians some-
times call the condition
"traumatic gastritis or peri-
carditis,' depending on the site
of penetration.
Many slaughtered animals
may have metal objects in the
stomach where heavy objects
lodge after they are swallowed.
This condition occurs more in
cattle than other animals
because they seldom chew their
food thoroughly the first time
and thus are more likely to
swallow metal objects without •
knowing it.
An animal with hardware ‘
disease may show no symptoms
until it gets pregnant. Then, the
weight of the fetus may force a
sharp object like a nail or wire
to pierce the stomach wall and
enter the heart This is called
"Traumatic pericarditis" and
generally will kill the animal in
a short time.
How can hardware disease be
detected in animals9 Some
symptoms include arching of
the back, tucking up the belly
and trembling of muscles in the
back of the front legs. Animals
may also have pain in the heart
area when the ribs over the
heart are pushed with the fist If
the heart is affected there may
be a noticeable pulsation of the
jugular vein Splashing sounds
in the heart area may be heard
if the animal is restrained and
checked closely.
If any Of these symptoms are
present, contact your veteri-
narian at once. Operative
surgery to remove the metal
objects is much more success-
ful when done early.
One preventive measure
against hardware disease is to
give animals a magnet shaped
like a bolus for worming. The
magnet is given to the animal
with a balling gun. It should
attract any metal objects

. You know what to do if you

cover the wound and let it heal.
Cuts and wounds on trees and
